Wishing like heck I could move there!

Hello All,

My name is Shawn aka CertainQuirk and I (with my partner Pedro) live in Colorado (High Plains, eastern third of the state, tornado alley area

We listen to FTL all the time and find hope, inspiration, and entertainment in what so many of you are doing there in Keene and all of NH (and other places as well). Personally, when I listen to the show or otherwise hear of events there in the FreeState, I feel less like an alien from another planet for awhile. It's comforting to know I'm not such an anomaly.

At this time we cannot make the move to NH, but if things in 'America' get much worse…

Until then, sincerely,

Shawn

Don't wait until things decay to the point that interstate travel is restricted…

Bummer… how much worse do they need to get?  What's your criteria to where you will know it's time to come here?

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome and come home to New Hampshire and you will be greeted with open arms by many liberty loving individuals.

Thank you for the welcome!

(forgive my @'s, I don't know how to multiple quote… I'm guessing you have to paste the code for msg's individually?)

@Sovereign Curtis: Restricted travel, yes, I know, it's coming, I'm all too aware

@COG_K: Thank you for the warm welcome, appreciated and taken to heart!

@FTL_Ian: Ah, the [edit] always [end edit] open-ended Ian! There are some family reasons at the moment and after that it's mainly financial reasons: Our property tax is $268 a year for a small house and 35 acres (Colorado tax is pretty low). That's like paying a small (infuriating) bill every month. Property tax there is almost the same as a rent payment in this region of Colorado. Also, our place is paid for, and we have 3 dogs, numerous cats (outdoors, but we do care for them) appx 70 chickens and other assorted fowl. Neither of us has any particular career skills. We are nearly middle-aged frogs in the pot. Etc.

I just have this nagging feeling that it's later than it seems in this country, and whether I can afford to or not, I need to be making backup plans, and thanks to you pioneering folks, the "where" of the backup plan is already decided.

Shawn

PS: I would like to thank you (all, but mainly FTL) for converting my partner to the ideas that I could never quite convey to him!

welcome to the forum its good to have you

I hope your situation changes so that you can move. In the meantime, welcome to the forum!

No idea what to tell you about extricating yourself from all that you have there.
And between the TSA and the increasing number of instances I hear of similar to those of Mike Barskey over the weekend, I'd say restricted travel is already here, de facto if not nominally.  And it's going to get worse, so now is better than later.

Indeed, property taxes are higher here than in many other parts of the country. But keep in mind that (1) we also have no income or general sales tax, and (2) it's not the worst in the country. A recent mover to Manchester from NYC told me that property taxes there are MUCH higher than in New Hampshire.

Welcome to the forum!  Really though like most when you get here you will say, "I wish I had moved sooner".

Welcome

Thank you all again for the welcome! If we were to make it there in a year or so, how would you rate the prospects of an underground Mexican restaurant in the Keene area? My partner (Pedro) is a great cook…

No offense to you folks in other parts of the state, but I'm a country kind of guy, I'll be in the Keene area.

I think that would be tricky.  You could have a private club essentially, but you'd have very limited clientele.  Honestly I think the key to food agorism is not having a publicized location.  You can put out fliers with the phone number and maybe also a website where people can order.

Talk to Momma Ally at Porcfest.  That woman knows her business.

@Dale: yeah, I'm thinking 'off the map' more like Momma Ally
@Ian: PorcFest, that sounds like a total blast, but can't make it this year :frowning:

I'll buy good Mexican food. Especially if there's no State middleman.

That's good, but you don't live in Keene.  :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, but good Mexican food is in short supply here, too.
