Hi. I'm in a transitional period right now and seriously considering a move to New Hampshire. Since my main conduit to the liberty movement has been free talk live, I'm naturally drawn to Keene and all the hi-jinks that go on there.
What I'd like to find out is what I'd expect to pay in rent for a modest studio or one bedroom apartment, and what the current jobs situation is there. Mind you I'm not opposed to the bottom of the barrel type jobs while I get myself settled.
I hope these questions aren't too repetitive or vague, if you need me to be more specific to answer them, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Well, I found a second job where I'm at, I think my plan going forward will be to trim expenses and try to build a bigger bankroll. That will allow me to be a bit more flexible if I do decide to make the big move. I also think it would be a good idea for me to visit the area and get the lay of the land.
I know you guys are pretty harsh on deleting inactive accounts, but I may not post much until I can schedule a visit this spring or summer. Let me know if there's anything I should do to keep this handle active. Appreciate what you guys are doing, and I hope to visit New Hampshire sometime in 2011.
The job situation is shitty. Probably like everywhere else, and complaints about your own/current job not paying enough or being a crazy place to work likely ain't gonna change.
Anecdotally, it takes about 4-5 months to land a job that's livable with–wage and hours steady, works with your location. Not super fun awesome times, but not wandering in the desert either.
Residency-wise, ads for rooms in houses and apartments in Keene proper run about $500 a month. ish. Never looked at them religiously so I can't say which utilities are usually included. Some places are always looking for roomies in the similar way that some jobs are always hiring…for a reason. For you, they might be unnoticed conditions.
Compared to other and bigger newspapers–Manchester, Union Leader–The Keene Sentinel (senintelsource.com) has a pretty easy to navigate housing and jobs section.

I'm not sure why you think we are harsh on deleting accounts, only accounts with zero posts are at risk of deletion.

Sorry about that, I was reading the forum rules and I thought you had to have a certain amount of posts over a given time period or else. I must have misread that. Anyway, again, thanks for your work and I hope to visit soon.

Hey, that's a step beyond what some people do.

How would you compare the current job availability of Keene to the larger population centers of Manchester or Nashua?

I would guess that it's easier simply because of the larger population and size, and proximity to Boston. Craigslist certainly has always had more listings for over there–prolly mostly crap jobs, but that's craigslist. Union Leader doesn't have its own classified section online but is 'hooked up' to the yahoojobs. When I looked last week on their site I lost interest as soon as I noticed that.
But I have two jobs already here, so I'm not motivated to search too well, and never lived out there. The free state project forum should have more posters who have worked in both areas, or can provide their own estimates for where they are.

I've used my back for income for the majority of my life. No special skills to speak of other than the ability to lift heavy objects for long periods of time. Although I have recently branched out to the field of pizza delivery.

As a long-term employer who has recently shrugged, it is my experience that people like you who are smart enough to "get" the freedom message, are smart enough to do many things that are valuable to employers. Think about getting a certification or taking on a task that requires your mind more than your back.
