I haven’t heard much about protests in the U.S. about the Jerusalem hubbub. I guess I was expecting more.
I’m not sure if nobody cares, or it isn’t being reported.
There was a time square protest.
The NYC bomber said he did it because of Israel, but they are saying he is mad about Gaza.
– Recent Israeli actions in Gaza compelled Ullah to carry out the attack, a law enforcement source said. The suspect was upset, in his words, with the “incursion into Gaza,” the source said, but did not elaborate on what incursion he may have been alluding to. Israel launched airstrikes this weekend against what it said were Hamas targets in Gaza after several rockets were fired out of Gaza toward Israel. This came amid widespread protests over President Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Does anyone know a good website/ youutber that isn’t hard to read/learn about the middle east? I honestly do not know what goes on there besides that we caused a blacklash.
Hey I don’t know about it, but I’m asking to know more so no hate.
That’s a great question. Most sources seem heavily biased in that area. Thinking anything out of Reason is good, but I don’t think they have a specific mideast desk.
I haven’t caught up all the way but I just started listening to the Scott Horton show, he is very knowledgeable about the conflicts and has published books and articles about it. It’s such a complex topic that you really need to put your thinking cap on about it, there doesn’t seem to be a good cliffnotes version, though that Vox video comes close.
Saudi Arabia has ordered media outlets in the kingdom to not focus “too much attention” on Washington’s controversial decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, sources have said.
The Saudi royal court sent a “severe warning” to bosses of newspapers and television and radio stations this week about the issue which has sparked protests across the Arab world, sources told The New Arab on Thursday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, they added that the directive ordered media to instead “take aim at Iran and other regional countries” in its coverage.
THE FACTS: A Monmouth University Poll conducted after Mr. Trump’s announcement found that the move is not very popular among the American public. Twenty-three percent of respondents said moving the embassy is a good idea, while 39 percent said it is a bad one. Thirty-eight percent registered no opinion, according to the poll, which was conducted from Dec. 10 to 12, 2017, among 806 adults in the U.S. It had a +/- 3.5 percent margin of error.
The poll also found that 51 percent of Americans believe Mr. Trump’s decision will destabilize the Middle East.
An earlier poll, conducted a few weeks before Mr. Trump’s announcement, found substantial opposition to an immediate move.
“Having thought about it, do you support or oppose the United States immediately moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?” a University of Maryland Critical Issues poll in November asked respondents.
Sixty-three percent said they oppose the move, including 44 percent of Republicans.
The University of Maryland poll was conducted from Nov. 1 to 6, 2017 among 2,000 American adults. It had 2.19 percent margin of error.
