House Bill 1793, the “Protecting College Students Act,” passed the NH House to allow firearms and non-lethal weapons on public college campuses. Scheduled for a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on April 14, 2026, the bill prohibits institutions from enforcing gun-free policies, protecting Second Amendment rights against threats like active shooters.
Students opposed to the bill are being “bussed in”. Fortunately other libertarians and students in favor of the bill will also be at the hearing to testify in favor of it. Restoring the gun rights of our young folks is just one of the many freedoms libertarians have been focused on in New Hampshire.
Unlike “adults” students and other young adults are generally disenfranchised from advocating for their own rights under our current system. They’re inhibited or prohibited from getting drivers licenses, employment, and similar.
Without the assistance of adults many college students can’t get to a state house hearing to testify on this bill who’d otherwise support it. Unfortunately “adults” with more fiscal resources are enabling those opposing the bill to attend that it would otherwise be difficult or impossible for them to testify against.
The wonderful thing about New Hampshire is that there are an increasing number of doers advocating for freedom thanks to the Free State Project’s migration of like-minded liberty conscious folks from around the world.
Whether this bill passes or not is less relevant to our overall long term success, but it none-the-less very well may soon be another check on tyrannical government that has infected every government on earth.
