Understanding and accepting libertarian ideas requires the sort of intelligence, education, honesty, discipline, independence from MSM’s distortions, and other virtues that we can only expect from a small minority.

The purpose of the Libertarian Party (or small-l libertarian candidates) is to get people to $searchEngine “libertarian”, drive readers to libertarian blogs, sell libertarian books, and eventually attract people to more serious libertarian projects like FSP or seasteading. And to drink the tears of whatever half of the duopoly “loses”.

I wouldn’t trust LP with the Ring Of Power if I thought they could actually “win” an election and use it. (I’ve even argued that the ideal LP POTUS candidate should be under 35 or foreign-born, and thus legally incapable of winning.)

And so how would “ranked choice voting” (or any other voting system reform) help with the aforementioned goal of using the election for outreach, cheap media access, and “spoiler” leverage against the two big parties?

I think it could do more harm than good, especially since the time you spend pushing voting reform is time you don’t spend promoting genuine libertarian projects and ideas. It would only help outright Socialists, Communists, etc, whose ideas are loved by every lazy moran, and are thus far more popular than ours.

We want the duopoly to hate us, to really really hate us (but to be powerless to have us all shot, because it would make them look bad). Spoiling their elections is one of our Ten Plagues, until they agree to Let Our People Go!
