Is there a postliberalism faction within the Free State Project? (And isn’t postliberalism antithetical to libertarianism?)
There are many articles trying to define, and to discuss, postliberalism. However, you have to really be interested to read what are very “high-brow” or academic discussions. The most readable and understandable definition I have found is actually in Wikipedia “Postliberalism”.
I think that there has probably from the beginning been such a presence. It’s a matter of perspective.
The article mentions that proponents of post-liberalism has “…failed to adequately address issues such as a perceived erosion of familial, community, and social cohesion, as well as income inequality.”
Thus, the post-liberal believes that these things are important. It’s possible that lilberalism does not even consider these things important. So the two sides are perhaps talking past each other, as opposed to talking with each other.
If liberalism does consider these things important, then perhaps they feel that their answer is correct.
As to whether or not it is contrary to libertarianism, again, relies on what you consider “libertarian”, with many points of disagreement among libertarians themselves.
As an anarchist, I believe that small communities should have the right to govern themselves, in whatever manner they decide is best for them, but without forcing their way on the whole state (regardless of how you define “state”). One community attempting to exert outside influence and control over another community is vile.
