On Tour Soon

Hi everyone, we have been considering a move to NH for some time now, and I'm going to make an exploratory trip soon. Narrowed it down to Keene area and Portsmouth area, but that could all change once I actually see what's going on. We won't live right in town, need some space for my garden, bees, chickens, etc. Also dependent on my wife getting a job (librarian), and being able to get rid of our current house.

I'm planning on being in NH maybe late next week (Jul 21-?) or maybe the week after. I will be riding my motorcycle and need to find campsites/yards/farms where I can set up my tent and sleep. I do not generally make fires, cook in camp, or party crazy. Just a spot to sack out before continuing my exploration. Would love to meet some folks and get a feel for each area that I visit. I'll post more detailed information as I think of it, kind of making this trip (intentionally) without a lot of concrete plans, just gonna "take a lap" of NH.

I live in PA now, worked for local gov't for 10 years (911, GIS) before I decided that I will never again voluntarily associate myself with any government organization. Well, that's all for now. Thanks in advance for any help/advice/tips.

Welcome to the forums!

I highly recommend being in Keene for one of the Social Sundays if you can time it so. Or depending on how flexible your schedule is, plan your trip around one of the bigger FSP events like PorcFest or the Liberty Forum to give you an opportunity to meet people from all across the state at one time in a great environment.

Thanks Ian and Paul. This trip is more to look around and see the landscape, and find some spots to show my family in the fall. I had planned on coming up for Porcfest, but had to cancel. After the way I was treated by Rogers Campground, don't think I'll give them my money any time soon. Trying to plan on being in Keene for Social Sunday.

Rough itinerary so far- Thursday- Home to Keene; Friday- Keene to Portsmouth; Saturday- Portsmouth to Grafton via Franconia Notch; Sunday- back down to Keene; Monday- Keene to Home.

Only catch with this trip is finding camping spots for 4 nights. I have a real issue with paying 25 dollars a night for a 10x10 patch of grass, especially in a state/national forest. I don't need or want any services, and would rather spend time with "locals" than RV'ers and tourists. Don't get me wrong, I've met some wonderful people in campgrounds, but that's not the purpose of this trip. I just want to have some options so I'm not spending my time looking for a campsite instead of learning about NH. I am also trying for some campsites through a motorcycle forum, but options are always nice.

Thanks again.
