New to this forum, and hopefully to keene soon

I don't know why, Richard.  It has 0 to do with the NH liberty movement.
word!

;D

at this point i really feel like my family has nothing to lose… NH is far enough away from extended family to keep the drama queens out of our lives, which makes it a good choice for coming home. if we can not get transferred to an office out there for my husbands current employer i am confident we will make enough money in the next three months to float us until we can really settle in.

now to convince the hubby that Keene is where we are goin!

Indeed, the FTL BBS is just a bunch of people online, most of whom don’t know each other in real life, or ever will, and thus quickly falls victim to the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

All of the activist-related forums—Free Keene, the NHLA, N.H. Tea Party, and the FSP forum—are much more civil because, for the most part, everyone’s dealing with “real” people, not just names and avatars on a screen.

I just read him this quote last month when we were randomly wiki-ing things. He was the one who brought the idea of moving to NH up, and I pretty much just ran with it. So he can not blame me for trying to make plans for something he wanted to do hahaha

Even if you don't move to Keene, you can still come here for the CD.  People from all over NH travel to Keene to do CD.
I definitely plan on it, I guess moving to Keene really just depends on where we can find housing and what kind of work is within driving distance, I am sure we can make it work. Doing all of my research now.

Make sure to check the jobs and housing subforums here for some useful links.

there is a strong association between the freetalklive bbs and freetalklive.  There is a strong association between freetalklive and the liberty movement, particularly Keene.  at the very least in perception, and definitely the last time I listened regularly.

The FTL BBS is the 4chan of the freedom movement.
That was perfect.

To be fair there are some very intelligent people hanging out there debating  amongst themselves , and the trolls are truly a notch above the average forum.

I visit for the entertainment value.

There are intelligent folks over at 4chan, too. I'm a former /k/ - Politics (lol) troll.

True. Then call it the FTL /b/BS.

I have noticed the intelligence level here is much higher than the FTL BBS.
I don't think it has to do with intelligence level as much as the internets are serious bussiness over here.

The huge vast majority of the active FTL BBS members are not free-staters, and particularly not ones who have actually moved and gotten active. That's what bugs me about the idea of judging the FSP by what people say there. It's like a whole board devoted to trolls of the liberty movement, and it appears they are very effective trolls if they are annoying and distracting people to that degree. Personally, I like to think I'm not so easily manipulated by trolls.

I do believe you deserve one free internet for that.

A person new to the whole Free State concept will rightly or wrongly (given the heavy coverage, I'd say rightly, despite disclaimers) perceive Free Talk Live as an adjunct of the whole Free State idea.  I should know, I was in just that position, getting just that impression only a year and a half ago.  While trying to make the not-insignificant decision to uproot my entire life and get out here, I had a lot of factors to be weighed carefully.  I kept coming back to: Do I really want to involve myself with a group that attracts dipwits like these?
Repeated visits to the board finally showed me that most of said dipwits weren't actually residents or even much involved with day-to-day NH activism, and I slowly came to an understanding that they were in no way representative of the Free State movement.  Someone without my history, passion, and investigative persistence, however, is highly likely to take a more cursory approach.  Two or three good looks at that board over a period of a few months could easily tip the balance to the negative in that person's decision, and TOTALLY ruin the movement!  Just RUIN it! deprive us of some valuable contributors.
Love it or hate it, the impression given is that those folks are representative.  Deny it if you like, but acknowledging it will be more productive.

Ouch. I think you got me there.

There could be a sticky on the BBS forum identifying freekeene as a forum specifically focused on Keene activism. Perhaps then more people would look here for info on the movement, not there.

I have to add that I've heard enough agreement from enough other people to recognize that this isn't just one of my quirky personal eccentricities: a lot of people are getting this impression.
I do wonder if, shutting down the board (as I've repeatedly suggested), would instigate a massive troll migration to FreeKeene and elsewhere, but I still believe that would have more positive than negative results.
