Moving to the Free State

Hey All,

Last year I signed the pledge to move to NH, and I plan on following through with that commitment this fall.  I thought it would be good to introduce myself to those already here, so I can get to know you all before I move up there.  As for my political views, suffice it to say that I need no convincing of the incurable ills of government.  Here's looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Regards,
Libertango

hey dude, welcome!

Hello!  Planning a move to Keene?

From what I've read on this and the other forums, it seems that Keene has the most similarly-minded people, so yes.

In the beginning, I plan on renting, but would eventually like to buy 15+ acres.  I'm not that interested in farming because I'd rather spend time on other things, but I really want to have a garden and a greenhouse.

I'm on a 4 month trip around Asia at the moment.  I had hoped to find a place where the chances of re-establishing liberty were higher than in the US, but I'm sad to say that I don't think it's the case.  Most everyone I've met has been completely apathetic to the level of government involvement, or welcoming of it.  :'(  So my conclusions are that if we can't make it work in the US, then the only remaining option is do what the founders did and start a new country.

Once I get back from this trip, I'm going to work for a short while to replenish my cash reserves before heading up to NH.  I plan to show up in NH with 6 months of living expenses on hand.  I'll probably look for a job in LAMP development or some other programming work, as that's what I enjoy most.

See you on the forum,
Libertango

Yay for more Keeniacs!  ;D Welcome to the forum!

You interested in bees on your 15 acres? When I can afford to, I'd like to get some hives and land to put them on would be awesome. Any particular area you want the 15 acres? In my limited experience, I've noticed that most larger land purchases tend to be up north in Grafton, but I'm sure older Keeniacs could point out some areas closer by. I know there is a need for an investor type person in Keene area.

Where through asia? I've always wanted to visit out there sometime, but never had (and probably won't get) an opportunity.

Regarding founding another country (not really a fan of founding a nation-state, more just forming a liberty-oriented society; not to mention country is supposed to refer to a land area and the word often gets misused), I think we'd have to wait for space (more likely to have liberty imho) or sea colonization first. Space is more likely because if a private company can get us there with a colony it'll be further from the government's reach than a sea colony. If you look throughout history, liberty tends to thrive in areas on the frontier regions; we need a new frontier.

I haven't heard of LAMP, but do you do much with PHP? It is something I've been interested in learning at some point.

Thanks for the welcome!

As long as I get to try some of the honey, bees would be welcome on my 15 acres.  May have to wait a little while for that though, as I'd like to avoid having a large mortgage.  I did see some reasonably priced land up near Grafton, though that's a little bit farther from civilization than I'd like to be at the moment.

I've been to Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and will be going to China, South Korea, and Japan before flying home.  I basically looked at the Heritage Foundation's list of most free countries in the world, and decided to go seem them.  This list also happens to include all four Asian Tigers.  I figure this will probably be the last time I fly in a long, long time, so better make the most of it!  ;D

I apologize for the confusion in my vocabulary.  By founding a new country I meant a geographic region, not a nation or state by any means.  Then we'd just end up with mediocrity or worse.

I think in the near future, there are probably some spots in the Amazon and in Africa where a Gault's Gulch could be created.  Space settlement is an intriguing concept I hadn't considered before.

So LAMP stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.  It's a complete server package for doing website hosting.  PHP is really easy and really fun to learn.  I have a sweet book for learning it, which is probably the best programming book I've ever read.  I'd be happy to lend it to you if you're interested.

Hey There!

I am relatively new to these Forums as well.
This fall I will be making a move back to the East Coast (from Los Angeles back to NYC to take some computer Design classes) Although I eventually plan to get up to Keene to be a permanent member of the Free State Project,
I will Initially Start Out by Visiting Keene and getting to meet/know people and also getting involved in some of the Activism before making my move up there.

So I just wanted to jump on here and say hello!
See you all in a few months.

Sweet, so I'm officially coming to PorcFest!  Got RV site #59.  See you all there, barring any issues with US Customs.

Thanks for the welcome.

You ended up with what turned out to be a sweet location for food vendoring.  Right at the a cross-way where lots of folks could see you.

Ill be moving out there in about a year or so from ct . keene is only about 2 and a half hours from where i am now . Friends of mine that have been to keene and didnt even know what it was all about thought it was a awsome place with a bunch of crazy cool people .

I was interesting talking with you at the Social Sunday afterparty, libertango.

Indeed, my location was quite good.  Glad to have so many customers.  Maybe next year there will be different Thai dishes to try.

Porcfest was awesome; I really look forward to helping us move towards the voluntary society.  Starting a business these days is quite difficult with so many regulations and such.

Thanks for inviting me to the after party, it was nice chatting with everyone there.

Liberty or death!
