Hey everyone, my name is Mattheus.
I'm currently living in Florida after having recently graduated with my Bachelor's in Economics. I became acquainted with the Free State Project (and the Shire Society) through Porcfest, and once I felt the free air of New Hampshire, I knew I wanted to move. Fortunately for me, I don't have much keeping me in Florida, so I'm moving up just as soon as I can.
A little more information about me. Like the rest of you, I'm a voluntarist. I started studying Austrian economics in high school. At first, it was Hayek and Hazlitt. Then I came to college and I started reading Mises and Rothbard, then Hoppe, etc. I gave my senior seminar presentation in economics on an Austrian argument for the dismantling of the monopoly of law and defense known as the State. I also gave my senior presentation in philosophy on the validity of the NAP.
I'm also involved with Bitcoin. I'm intrigued about Bitcoin from the Austrian perspective, about its ability to circumvent and undermine the state's apparatus of taxation and money-creation, its anonymity, its potential for freedom. I'm not a programmer so I don't grasp that angle of Bitcoin very well, but I do my best to learn more about it anyway.
I used to write for the blog Economic Thought, and my last post was on Porcfest here.
Anything else you'd like to know, ask away! I'm an open book.
Welcome to the forum - what's your ETA and destination in the Shire?
ETA is a few weeks, near the beginning of August. I don't have a solid destination (I guess I'll be flying into Manch…), but I do have a few FSP friends who have generously put me up for a time. I'll be spending some time in Suncook, as well as in Moltonborough. I want to travel around the state, check out Keene, Laconia, Manchester, etc. The point is to put down roots and establish myself as a New Hampshire resident.
I would recommend against being a "resident" when you can instead "inhabit" NH. Residency comes with requirements like car registration whereas inhabiting does not. At least that's my interpretation.
