My name's Jake
I'm strongly supportive of everything you are all doing and will be contributing to your cause
A little bit about myself:
I'm a structural engineer who not too long ago was a subscriber and avid reader of thinkprogress.org
It's kind of fascinating to me to look back now at how confused my views really were
I have to thank people like yourselves for finally opening my eyes.
I now have a different subscription; this time to mises.org, and the clarity of answers and sophistication of thought found at mises.org is not even comparable to anything produced by progressives.
What turned me on to this site in particular is the Sunset of the State video. It was an amazing production and I would like to thank everyone involved. The video really highlighted the point that I just made above, which is simply that libertarianism is the ONLY political philosophy that really provides clarity. All other views require endless paradoxes and contradictions that are intuitively unsettling, but ignored by most people, who simply refuse to think about them too much.
Here's something I wrote recently if anyone is interested, I'd love to hear some comments by like-minded people.
It's called "Don't Think"
“How fortunate for leaders that men do not think.” –Adolf Hitler
DON’T THINK
We are safe now
Free from the exploitative intentions of the crafty capitalist
Don’t believe
Protected are we by the gentle hand of democracy
The elected Pinocchio’s never actually freed from their strings
Ideologically ignorant of the laws of liberty
Subservient slaves to the biddings of bureaucracy
Bound by the entrenched and established hierarchy
Absolutely unaware to the appeal of anarchical autarchy
We’re not safe
But don’t dread industry
It isn’t enterprise that brings calamity
Fear those in power who promise prosperity
Who solemnly swear to provide benevolent state planned charity
Defiance of scarcity cannot be legislated
Drastically underestimated is the influence of the unintended
Consequences casually become the cause for careless casualty
Economically ignorant altruism cannot be allowed to form policy
Entitlements are not free
Every penny is expropriated from you or me
Redistributed to ones deemed “more worthy”
Not voluntarily by choice for those in need
But distributed to those who can influence to powers that be
Things have to change
The difference between the market and the state
Is defined by the difference between voluntary exchange
And violent coercion
The edict of the empire is enforced through only extortion
The butt of a gun, badge and penalty
Confiscating life, property, and potential for productivity
Sent to enforce its edict are state sanctioned goons
Brainwashed to bully the malefactors
Instructed to terrorize and intimidate their captors
They know what’s best
Arbitrarily defined by lobbyists and senators
To protect and control the helpless consumers
Unable to decide for themselves
Incapable of responsibility
Inept in restraint
Impotent in potential
Incompetent in choice
Inproficient individuals
Inexperienced in experience
And in effect ineffective
Invalids
Savage selfish sheep saved from themselves by the state
Don’t think
You’re more
If you begin to think you are more you’ll need less
Removed from the influence wrought by dependence
By denying acceptance of the false pretense of reliance
Immense liberation is found by deliverance through defiance
The propensity of independence is our only defense
From senseless guidance by egomaniac tyrants
Obsessed in indulgence of their sense of self importance
Oblivious to the consequence of their actions
Unintentionally oppressive in their intentions
But unforgivably dense in lack of acceptance
That we are all capable beyond measured contrivance
To achieve our own happiness
Our own success
Of self determined paradise
Remove ethos from its exclusory vise
And people can formulate their own advice
Kept from infringement of others’ libertarian rights
But free from sectarian fights over access to vice
No more catering to “sensible” sensibilities
That purge potential possibilities
Restricting responsibilities
Limiting liabilities
Freezing faculty
Undercutting utility
Cutting capability
And amputating ability
Hailing the harbinger of hostility
By criminalizing the free
It’s easy to see
The heavy hand of democracy
Majority manipulating the minority
Is not the road to liberty
Mob mentality forcing fallacious morals on humanity
Certain in their own biased superiority
Willing to wage war in their certainty
Bombing nations right out of their ideological “immaturity”
With fighting financed by fed fiat fueled inflation
Dogma cannot dictate and define the direction of a nation
Nor can the empty fortifications of nationalist isolation
Which prolong the pollution of entrenched institutions
Pimping our potential in this prison of political prostitution
Diluting our resolution for systemic evolution
But it’s time for restitution
Just try and restrain this revolution
No execution, perse- or prose-cution
Will regulate this righteous reach for retribution
Don’t think
There’s a solution
Hello Jake. It's cool that you have figured some things out.
