Jones Act and HR19 (current)

The Jones Act (1920) is essentially the same as the
Navigation Acts that England enforced up to the American
War of Independence. The enforcement of the Navigation
Acts was a major cause of that war.

In 1920 the Jones Act was passed in the United States.
HR 19 supports termination of the Jones Act.

Among other things, the Jones Act, like the interstate
highway system, was primarily to support military
action in case of war:
“The Jones Act was intended to subsidise the American merchant navy, providing vessels and infrastructure which the armed forces could use in a time of war.”
