Introduction

Hello Free Staters,

I've been lurking in the boards for a little while now, listening to the rumblings of the FSP and Keene area.  Last week, I finally decided to sign the FSP Statement of Intent.  I've never felt more liberated in my entire life, having lived in the horribly statist socialist bastion that is Madison, WI for the last three years.  I've hated this state since the moment I got my first paycheck here and saw how much of the fruits of my labor that the parasites in the capitol building were stealing from me.

Dunno quite when I'll be able to pack up the things and get out there (fortunately, I've only a cat and a rat to worry about relocating… no wife/girlfriend or kids).  Mostly, it's just riding on the condition of finding employment (know of anyone needing a full-time editor or technical writer?  ;D).

But, yeah, just thought I'd drop in and say hi.

I can't wait until I can finally cross the NH border to my new home.  I moved to WI from Florida, so the last three years have proven to me that I can survive a winter.  Now it's time for me to get to one of the few remaining pockets of liberty in this tyrannical, foul imperial nation.

I know that when I finally cross that border, I'm going to have tears of joy welling in my eyes.  I'll finally be a free man (well, relatively… but we can work on the rest later, hehehe.  That's the whole point of moving to NH, right?  :D).

Take care, Free Staters and Keeniacs.  Know that there are people halfway across the country applauding your courageous efforts.  I'm even starting to brainstorm what things I'm going to protest once I'm there.

I think the state monopoly on liquor sales will be one of my first targets.  I even have a pretty awesome protest idea a-brewin' in the back of the brain.  I may call in to FTL one night and disclose it on the air, in case anyone currently on the ground in NH wants to give it a shot.  I think it's pretty clever, myself.  :stuck_out_tongue:

Peac3,
Mike (though, occasionally, a couple of my friends have called me "Mikearchy" :P  Feel free to use either.)

Nice to meet you and looking forward to hearing more from you. Regarding the liquor sales, I recently saw an article in the Keene Sentinel, but since it was too old to still be on their site I found a similar article on the Nashua Telegraph, in which they are indeed working on changing things so that grocery stores can sell liquor. http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090406/NEWS02/304069926
Just thought I'd post this link in case it was of interest to you, I thought it was very interesting…

While that is certainly a step in the right direction, my protest idea will try to directly confront the state monopoly outlets at a particular source (where?  I'm not sure yet… still gotta move there and do my research).  Provided that the fines are relatively light (sub-$1000) and it's not a felony charge (I'd rather not spend a couple of years in jail over something as minor as boozahol), I've no issue getting arrested protesting the anti-free market policies of the NH state government in that regard.

But, regardless, that's a good thing to see.  In listening to FTL at work, I heard people talk about the liquor laws in NH and didn't quite understand what they meant.

Me: "What do you mean the state controls the sale and distribution of liquor?  What's that mean??"

I did some research a couple of weeks ago and read that, yes, the state actually controls the sale of liquor!  How obscene!  Here in WI, while I disagree with the need for the acquirement of a license to sell the stuff, that the NH government has the monopoly on its distribution and sale is CRAZY!!

But, yeah, can't wait to get over there.  The sooner, the better.  In the interim, I plan to be a little active on the boards.  Even though I'm an out of state imposter at this point, my head's certainly in line with the people that frequent this board.  Perhaps a little outside perspective never hurts, eh?

Thanks for the response,
Mike

Congratulations on making such a courageous decision. I look forward to meeting you when you follow through on it (or when you visit NH in the meantime, like at PorcFest?).

I'd love to, but with the way the government people and the Fed have wrecked our economy, I think I'm gonna fly this one blind.  I have another fellow Free Stater up here who may make a pre-emptive trek to the area to check out where in NH he wants to move.  I may tag along with him and just chill with some Keeniacs while he gallyvants around the state checking out jobs and properties.

'Cuz, while I'd LOOOOOOOOVE to live in Keene, I also have to be realistic: I'll go anywhere where there's a job in my field (except Boston, Mass).  I'm leaning towards Manchester, if only because it's a larger population center and, more importantly, it's a large population center that's (relatively) close to Keene.  When those Porc411 notices go out, it'd be nice to be close enough to where I can burn a couple gallons of gasoline and help out from time to time.

But, like I said, I'll go anywhere in the state where there's a job up my alley.  Just get me outta Wisconsin!!  screams  These people are nuts (well, most of 'em)!!

Take care,
Mike

And, on a different topic altogether, thanks for sending my letter off to Sam earlier in the week, Mike.  'Tis much appreciated.  Here's to hoping he gets out relatively soon.  fingers crossed

M.

You're welcome. They may not have a bail hearing for Sam today (it's still being looked into), so he may be in jail longer. Stay tuned, and be prepared to write more letters. :frowning:

Absolutely.

I just hope too many of you aren't in jail at the same time.  I've already got a killer case of carpal tunnel.  My ligaments and tendons can only handle so much!  :stuck_out_tongue:

M.

Welcome.  I hope you find a gig.  If it's taking too long, you may want to consider just moving and getting work somewhere while you look for something that fits you better.  Not sure how much easier finding a job like you want is when you are in close proximity to it.

Thanks for the kind words, Ian.

My plans are, pending that I can't find a job remotely, to give myself a two year time frame.  That should be enough time for me to build up the necessary capital to weather the unemployment storm once I move.  If I weren't on a lease, I could afford the move out there right now and be okay.  But I'd rather err on the side of caution.

In the meantime, I've done some networking with other Free Staters on LinkedIn and Facebook.  My resume has also been scattered to the four winds on sites like Monster, Hotjobs, and CareerBuilder.

But until the day arrives where I'm able to move, I'll do what I can from Wisconsin to send support to the activists in Keene and other places in New Hampshire.  Heck, maybe I can even recruit a few other Wisconsinites to join the FSP and get the heck out of this miserable excuse for a state.  I already know that one of my best friends here has signed up (and his wife and children are ecstatic).  I'm working on getting another buddy (and his girlfriend) to sign up officially, as well.  I think they're both really close to signing the Statement of Intent.

But, anyway, back to work, I guess.  Here's to hoping Sam gets released today or tomorrow… best of luck to you all.

Kind regards,
Mike

Good to hear.
And good luck on your eventual move.

I'll get to NH soon enough.

In the interim, I'll simply pretend I'm there virtually and clap as you all do what is necessary to secure my rights in a state in which I'll eventually live.

You all are valiant warriors on the front lines.  I'm just conveniently there to be reinforcements when the conditions are correct for me… unfortunately.  Bah, I'm such a jerk.

:frowning:

M.

Sweeeeet.  Thanks to the admins (Ian?) who changed my name.  My previous name is my current gaming moniker… but certainly isn't my fighting-for-liberty moniker.

thumbs up

Mike

Welcome! I think you'll like New Hampshire a lot better than Madtown, though I must admit I kind of miss the Halloween riots.

Heh, if only we had riots nowadays.  Might make things a tad more interesting.  Now, the Halloween things are nothing more than a tourist trap.

I don't even bother heading downtown anymore.  Just a bunch of fratty violent types.  Perhaps that was the consensus before.  I'm still relatively new to town… but I'm old enough enough here to know that I don't like WI.

It was certainly a lot more interesting before they started selling tickets and blocking off State Street for the duration. Now it seems kind of pointless.

Anyway, I was quite glad to leave Madison and never come back. I suspect you will be too.

Grrrr.  I had to add a stupid disclaimer to my signature tonight to free my employer from any legal liability.  Since I've posted from work here in WI, I figured it a smart thing to do to free my employer from any sort of IP liability.

I doubt my boss would understand what "voluntaryism" or "libertarian anarchy" or "free marketeer" would mean from his rather leftist perspective.  le sigh

If I'm to post from work, I guess I'll have to keep things dialed down a bit.  Posting about anything political could get me in potential trouble at the office.

To be honest, I don't care… but, while I'm here, I do love my job.  Bleh.

Such a double-edged sword,
Mike

So you're a relatively newer mover, eh?

I've been here since 2006.

And I've loathed every moment since I saw my first paycheck.  I approached my ex-girlfriend with my first paystub in hand, steaming, "WHATTHEFUCKISTHIS?!?!?!"

She says, "Oh, that's the state income tax."

Since then, I've wanted to move away from this hellhole.

Can't wait to get out of it.  Just gotta find an employment excuse to justify the move or, worse, move blindly and take whatever I can find.

M.

And don't get me wrong.  I won't miss Madison.  Or Wisconsin.

But I've met a ton of wonderful people here that would be GREAT FSP participants; however, they're just too tied to the area to take the plunge.  That's the unfortunate thing.

I know tons of liberty activists… it just seems that a small handful are willing to do something so drastic (at least in this part of the country) that could potentially ensure liberty in their lifetime (to use the motto cheese-ily).

M.

I love your avatar.
