Hello! I am an FSP participant and have been following the FSP since 2001. 2015 is finally my year to move! I have been trying to finish grad school, and it's unfortunately taken several years longer than expected. But this spring I will definitely be done, and I am very excited (albeit a little nervous) to finally join in on the fun.
Professionally I have worked many years as a software developer and part-time musician. My other hobbies include cryptocurrencies, target shooting, working on my track car, 3D printing, and virtual reality software (although I've had almost no time for anything else besides school for lately.)
I have always had very strong libertarian beliefs. The growing police state is incredibly scary, and I am currently in one of absolute worst states as far as police per capita, incarcerations per capita, and (ironically) violent crime per capita. I am thrilled to move to NH, as it is always on the opposite end of these types of rankings.
I have tons of questions about the FSP and what's going on there, but I have been hesitant to post on the FSP forum. The main worry I have had is that (some) people in NH may be hostile towards FSP participants. Is this a misplaced concern? I have seen a ton of trolling on the Free Keene FB and website pages. But anyway, I didn't know about this forum until I heard the Shire website mentioned on Free Talk Live. I will feel much more comfortable posting on a private forum.
Looking forward to meeting you guys in person!
The concerns are mostly (though not entirely) misplaced. Most natives have never heard about the fsp. Certainly there are vocal opponents in keene and, the internet and in various progressive meet up groups.
The fsp forums are a fine place to ask questions. This forum is also fine. Neither is as closely followed as the Facebook group which can be good or bad.
If you've not already done so and you have any interest in attending liberty forum in March, I'd strongly encourage you to buy tickets now since the price will go up jan 1st.
Welcome to the forum.
Welcome GreyArea.
Please note, this forum is publicly available on the internet, so nothing said here is private in any way.
Of course some people in NH don't like liberty activists. Some people just don't like activists and others don't like liberty. People not liking you comes with the territory of doing public activism.
However, not all activism need be public.
