I'm moving to Keene, and I'll be there before the end of the month (or fail)

Hello all,

My name is Christopher, I'm 23, and I'm a dropout (for now) from the University of Florida since about a year ago. I just couldn't take the college kids anymore but especially the propaganda factory known as UF's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that has you pay for your own indoctrination. I needed a change of scenery and people, so I decided to "run away" for a while.

I've always heard about New Hampshire's unique political profile, so when I did a little research back in the summer, I found out about the Free State Project, and lo and behold, off their website, I stumbled upon Free Keene. I knew immediately then where I was going to spend my time in self-imposed exile from the "Diversity-(enter category here[-al]) Justice" Cult.

I'm here on their forums because I'm looking for my next place of residence, and I think I pretty much found it. It's funny how things just seem to work out when you expect them to sometimes. Freekeene.com brought me into Keene's fold full-circle. I'm gonna go PM my (probably) next roommate now for the room he's offering.

Hopefully, I'll be seeing you guys around town in the near future; I'll be the one waiting tables and annoying customers by talking a lot and trying to be amusing (if all goes according to plan).

Nice - welcome!

Wow, welcome! It's awesome to see so many great people moving to NH.

Kickass (sure are a lot of Florida refugees)

Welcome!

welcome!  enjoy the time off from school.  If you end up going back, or to finish at any school, you'll have an easier time of the children around you.

If you're moving up some time this winter, you'll need warm clothes. Oh and if you're driving, don't expect traction when going fast around corners. People from the warmer climates don't really "get it" until they get here, and sometimes it's already to late for them (crash).

Thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate the warm welcomes and the advice.

Yeah, I'm buying articles of clothing that I never even knew existed. . .like over-underwear under-wear?? I mean it's 70-something degrees outside where I am in Florida and will probably stay that way for most of the "winter." Fortunately I don't have a car to worry about though but my step-dad is a transplant from the NYC area and he has always warned me about traction issues (among other cold climate auto related tips such as the need for anti-freeze engine coolant and letting the car run for a while before driving off [actually, that's about it]); not to mention, driving up north a few times with him has given me some experience with the matter (i.e. close calls).

Part of my plan is to read a bunch more while I'm away so as to be even better prepared to do battle in the ideological war-zone that is college (for me). I'm betting on that it'll be all the easier to deal with the chillun' who keep drinking from the same punch bowl then but more so because they'll be easier to stomach once I get that much needed break from them.

You know, actually, not too many months ago, I found out a prominent Ron Paul supporter while as a student at UF had moved off to NH too; it's funny that we both independently got this same idea. I can't put my finger on what it is with Florida, but . . .

I was a humanities major and by the time I was re-enrolled after taking a year off, I didn't give a rat's about the chilluns and just wanted the reading list from the instructors, the assignments/review questions, and then gtfo.  If you're studying something useful though, a science or something, then God help you.

Considering that Fark.com has a whole Florida category, there is definitely something about Florida…

I'm also from Florida, albeit the northwest part.  Florida is infested with retirees of all kinds, alot of ex military, and it shows in the local governments.  There isn't an income tax, but the fascistic environmental rules, building codes, and high property taxes make it suck.  Oh and hurricanes.  But spring breaks are fun!
