Salutations all,

I am here because I want to form my exploratory committee of one regarding moving to Keene or not.  I have recently discovered a lifestyle of complete freedom, and it has invigorated me more than I ever thought was possible.

I used to be a statist like everyone else.  (I even used to intern for Democrat Congressmen during my college days.)  I don't believe I ever had a revelation/epiphany-type moment; it was an incremental process.  As I broke free from the education system, my mainstream faith in the Democrats began to wane.  I believe my parents taught me to be responsible and thrifty at an early age, so I was inclined towards "relatively" economically conservative Republicans.  Shamefully, I was caught up in the neo-con wave of wars that occurred after 9/11.  As the wars dragged along, I became more and more of a reluctant Republican, supporting them only because I believe that they were the lesser evil.

Once I moved out, I became more interested in economics.  I had to save, budget and invest and I wondered why the US government didn't allow its citizens to do the same thing.  As I studied more and more on the internet, I came across the Mises Institute, which more than satisfied my thirst for free market economics.  During 2008, Ron Paul entered the scene and helped me realize the importance of civil liberties and a non-interventionist foreign policy.

So, I became a libertarian.  As I read Mises, LewRockwell.com and the like, I couldn't help but shudder at the direction the US was headed but also looked deeper within myself.  If lots of government is wrong, how can any of it be right?  I concluded that voluntaryism and rejection of the State is the only rational and logical conclusion to my libertarian beliefs.  Over the past few months, I have been ravaging podcasts like Free Talk Live, Freedomain Radio, School Sucks, and Complete Liberty in order to free my mind.

I am currently a CPA in New Jersey; however, I would like to start a new life.  The money is good but after five years, I need something more stimulating and hopefully, virtuous.  I don't believe I was meant to follow arduous tax and accounting rules; it's not how I operate.  I'm not sure what my new calling will be, but I hope it can be in Keene.

One of the main reasons I want to move to New Hampshire is that I want to surround myself with people who share like-minded principles.  I'm an open minded guy, except when it comes to promoting aggressive violence to achieve goals.  I cannot stand for that and would like to associate with people who don't stand for that, either.  Friends can't agree on everything, but I believe the non-aggression principle is an amazing foundation of which to start.  I have nothing holding me here, no wife or children, so I believe this is the best time to do it.  I look forward to meeting many individuals from Keene and am exciting about taking the next step towards freedom.

Sounds like you'll fit right in.  I'll look forward to seeing you here!

Welcome - you've certainly come to the right place.

When can we expect you?  ;D

Man, I've love for it to be now.  Practicality always has to get in the way, grrrrrrr

Well, not before April 15th.  I work with my brother and don't want him to take the flak for me leaving in the middle of our busy season.  And then I should wait until June 30 to get paid for the extra hours I put in now.  I'll need the extra cash if I don't know where I'll be working/living over the next 6 months.  I want to use this time to get the necessary information together to facilitate a move in July/August.  If it takes longer than that, I'd consider outright quitting before the year end.  I can't take another tax season.

Sounds like a good plan - congrats on your decision!

Hey thanks!

Your evolution to voluntaryism sounds very similar to my own. It was very incremental and I went through an apologist-for-the-Republicans-lesser-of-two-evils phase as well.

Welcome!  I'm unaware of any other CPA's who have moved here.

You have customers waiting for you.

Welcome its good to have you on the forum

Welcome, and hope to see you up here for the Porcupine Freedom Festival!

Your journey to freedom sounds very similar to mine. Welcome to the forum.

What helped me was finding my passions, and continuing to expand them in my life. I too realized that sorting out FCC regulations so AT&T could use the system to retain their power, was not my purpose in life. A year later I'm still discovering that purpose, and the journey has been incredible.

Since you started out on the left - you might be interested in how to achieve leftist ends - EQUAL liberty - by libertarian means - ENDING all privilege or requiring an obligation where exclusive use is necessary.

Love your comics!

Welcome, NotMySlave! I know of at least one person who moved here who used to be an accountant. They don't do it now, though, so if you plan to offer such services to porcupines, you should indeed have a large pool of potential customers.

While you aren't planning to move until July-ish, maybe you could visit in March for the Liberty Forum or in June for PorcFest.

I'll see you when you come home.

I REALLY want to go the Liberty Forum but work will keep me from being able to do so.  I may come up for part of Porcfest – I just have a wedding in Long Island that Saturday.
