Hey guys & gals! I've been lurking on here a bit lately but finally decided to register. I post a bit on the FTL forums (mostly in my black market baklava post), but typically just lurk there as well. Just wanted to post & say hi. :) I'm married, turn 30 next year, and have twin daughters that turn 6 in February. I was turned on to the ideas of voluntaryism over the summer and it really just stuck with me. I wish I could join you guys up in Keene, but I'm one of those, "can't convince the wife" types. Plus having all our family around is a blessing with our girls. I was inspired by FTL to take my baby steps in civil disobedience by selling baklava online through my home & outside the government. It's just a side job, but it's more rewarding than my full time job. There is nothing like working your tail off and being able to keep all the fruits of your labor.
I saw Tarrin post about this on his Facebook page and it definitely made me think of what I'm doing. He said he was on FTL tonight talking about this, so I'll have to check it out once you post the podcast.
I have a lot of respect for what this biscuit guy is doing. In addition to the internet, I also sell my baklava locally & have done a bunch of deliveries for customers. I love what I'm doing, and I refuse to stop out of fear of getting harassed by cops or the township. I provide a great product that people want to buy from me. It's a private transaction between the buyer and I. It's turned into a hobby that I actually get paid for. How can you beat that?
BTW, at the end of the video Tarrin says, "Support local businesses like this," and I can say that Tarrin puts his money where his mouth is. When I sent a friend request to him on Facebook I also sent a message telling him about my at home business. He offered to barter a piece of jewelry for a pan of baklava! Talk about at home businesses supporting each other. We were both extremely busy, as this was the week before Christmas when we talked, so we agreed to do this after the new year.
