How to avoid being purged from the Free Keene Forum

Hello!

There has been some trouble with spam accounts being created on the forum recently.  In order to deal with this situation, a new policy has been implemented.  All new users to the forum must post an introduction in the Introduce Yourself forum, prior to being granted access to the other forums.  If an introduction is not posted within a week of signing up, their account may be deleted.

If you are reading this and have already posted on the Free Keene forum at least once, you are safe from the coming account purging.  This weekend, all accounts with zero posts will be eliminated from the forum.  You may avoid this purge by posting an introduction here: http://forum.freekeene.com/index.php?board=13.0  You may want to explain how you found Free Keene, and why you have joined the forum.

If you do not happen to read this email in time for the purge and are deleted, please simply sign up fresh and post your introduction - you'll instantly have full access to the forum.

Note, the forum is still completely readable when you are not logged in.  We are not going private - this is merely a way to eliminate the many spam accounts that have been created here.

You may review the forum rules here, as they have been updated:

Just wanted to point this out. I saw at least one post where someone who had posted several times before sounded annoyed that they were feeling compelled to post an intro or be deleted. You are safe if you've posted something, anything. An intro just seems like the easiest thing to do if you haven't yet posted anything at all.

It's a nice bonus though that we are getting an opportunity to get to know some great folks due to all the new intros.

Purge complete.  Membership reduced by 2/3 to under 500.

I think you've solved the problem of trolls like me wanting to "cycle accounts" as well.  ^-^

this was a great idea … makes sense to introduce yourself before you start posting
if guys just want to read the forum, then they can remain hidden

I hope Ian (PBUH) decides to do the same to the FTL BBS as well.  One thing I don't like, however, is how newbie accounts are only able to READ this one area for the forum.  The restriction should only apply to posting, not reading.

Luckily the same doesn't apply to unregistered users / Web spiders.  There's nothing that I hate more than posting where what I write isn't archived by the likes of Googlebot, so it can disappear down the memory hole at any time…
