no we dont need money , just a place to crash with a short notice that isnt 80 to 100 dollars for only a few hours . the hotel i looked at was 100 without tax , thats nuts !

well what i was trying to say thats not including tax . and for only a few hours its over 100 dollars  … … a freestater needs to open a motel and offer fair prices .

It's an underground business opportunity, for sure.

Good idea!

For some reason, NH has a dearth of affordable motels/hotels. For a state that relies so heavily on tourism, it's very curious. Folks visiting the Keene area are often advised to get a room in Vermont.

Berlin is relying heavily on tourist money with the new ATV park, but those tourists will only spend significant money in Berlin if they can sleep and eat there. There's exactly one motel in Berlin, reportedly a nasty shack of a place, so all these tourists will load up their ATVs and head back to their motels in Gorham, where they will also spend their gasoline and restaurant money.

how far is gorham from keene ?

If you speed, probably about 3 hours.

The burden of property taxes maybe? Something like the Keene Best Western has to pay $55k a year in property taxes. That's 550 guests at the $100 a night AAA rate.

There are cheaper motels in NH but they are usually the small places.  For example, there is a place in Seabrook which is $50 a night off season (Seabrook is a beach town).  There are a few hotels in Nashua in the $50-$60 range, at least when Liberty Forum happens.  Likely some in Manchester and other parts of NH to but I don't look for hotels so I'm not really up on the the prices of the 100s or so places in NH.  There are what, a 1/2 dozen or so motels/hotels in the Keene area.  Likely some of them aren't so expensive.

I've noticed that hotels/motels in general tend to be more expensive in the northeast then much of the middle of the nation.  Maybe because land is more valuable, maybe because people are paid more and maybe because property taxes are higher.
