Hi

This is the only forum category I see. I guess they want to restrict my freedom and only let me post where they want me to.

jk

hey guys

That's probably because you haven't done a proper introduction yet per the instructions.  Once you do, you should have access to more.

Welcome vinnie!

Vinnie,

Welcome.  Unfortunately, it appears you did not read the forum rules, so I've reduced your post count to 0.  Please review the rules and post a proper introduction to be given full access to the forum:

This forum seems friendly…

Guilty until proven innocent? How about just ban the spammers as you see them, rather than assuming every new person is a spammer.

You guys run this forum like a fat guy running a marathon.

And Ian, nobody cares about post count. If you're on this forum to get more posts than the next guy, you're here for the wrong reason.

So anyways…

I'm a rational libertarian (minarchist). I'm in college. I'm here because it seems like the most active of the FSP forums. I think some of the ways you are trying to achieve liberty are just flat out ridiculous. I think I have a lot to offer in terms of ideas, suggestions, and critiques. I came here to participate rather than just observe as I have been doing for the past few months. I do want to move to New Hampshire but probably won't anytime soon because the people seem less than friendly.

Troll.

I'm not here to troll, I'm just disappointed in what I've seen so far.

And posting "Troll." is trolling, as well as spamming, so you have no room to talk.

The forum cares.  You need a post count of 1 to post in other sections, and that's just what is used to tell that you've done your intro.  If it's not a valid intro per the instructions, Ian sometimes reduces it back to zero which effectively prevents you posting elsewhere until you introduced.  That's as far as post count matters.  It's just a technical thing.

I am curious as to what experiences you have had or people you have heard that felt unfriendly to you? I am a NH native, and between: these forums; living in Keene where much of the activism occurs; and having met and spoken with several Free Staters, I have yet to meet someone who was less than happy to talk to me.

Welcome to the forums, hopefully some discussion will change your mind about the people up here.

So many of the Keene people just seem snobby. Might just be the internet factor. Online, people get into like argument mode and start trying to sound all proper and degrade the other people.

Most Internet forums are just places for people to talk, and they're great for that.  Free Keene is very different.  It's very localized.  This forum's main purpose is to organize activities in Keene.  Secondary is to show people what's going on here and hopefully encourage like-minded liberty-loving people to move here.  The blog is really more about that than the forum, I think.

So I can see how it could come across as snobby.  There is an attempt to filter people who just want to talk.  There are many better forums for that.  I think what makes it one of the more active and appealing liberty sites in NH is that people see action, but we'll lose that if we don't keep it about real-life activities instead of just being another place on the Internet to talk about various liberty issues.

So I wouldn't deny that the introductions is a filtering process.  If it discourages someone from posting here, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Sounds to me like you haven't met any activists from Keene.  It's the nicest bunch of people I've had the pleasure of meeting.  Anyway, thanks for the intro post.  You're welcome to share your ideas and critique, but don't be surprised if people suggest you come and implement them.  Everyone is a critic, but far fewer people are doers.  Critique usually has more meaning if it's coming from someone who has made the move to NH.
