I'm 25 years old, have been a libertarian since 2003 when a kid in my PAC club in high school introduced me to the philosophy, and am absolutely petrified of the state. Before I discovered libertarianism I was a, for lack of a better term, a blank slate, but probably leaned more towards the Left. I never did care for government or politics. I currently live in Lewisville, Texas, a relatively small city a few miles north of Dallas. I'm a bit worried about the difference in climate, but overall I'm excited about getting out there and reckon I can probably rough it. I don't know how active I'll be in the activism scene as I've never participated in anything more than one of the few (pointless) anti-war marches I've attended, but I'll figure that out as the future unfolds, I suppose. I don't know, it's really hard to say at this point having lived all of my life in such a pro-state, pro-war, (and even when it comes to issues most of the locals loathe) relatively docile community.
My girlfriend Anne and I will be attending Porcfest this year. We will be in NH from June 19-June 27. We will be flying into Manchester on June 19, and plan on spending the following 2 or 3 days scoping out the Keene scene. We have a cabin reserved at Roger's for the entire week and plan on doing some food and beverage vending.
The plan is to make the decision as to whether or not we will "early move" based on both our experience at Porcfest as well as our tour of the Keene area. Keene seems to be most fitting for us as I'm really a small-town kind of guy, and Anne is more of a a big-city girl. It seems like a good middle-of-the-road. If we do move, it will likely be before summer's end.
Anyway, while we're in Keene June 20-21, we will be checking out some properties. We will be opening up a business there within weeks of moving (if we decide to move, and we probably will), so we'll need to find a suitable commercial property. We aren't sure what we're going to do about residence just yet, but we both agree renting a house would probably be best.
If anyone would be interested in meeting up while we're there, that would be awesome.
Neither one of us are all that shy or anything, but it would be nice to have some people to readily mingle with at Porcfest when we have some downtime. And honestly, it's hard enough leaving all of our friends and family here in Texas. Having some friendships squared up in the area would definitely lighten the load when we make the move, so if anyone could do for a couple of mildly-Southern, friendly strangers for friends, that would be awesome.
Alright, time for bed. I'll check in with you lot tomorrow. Good night.

Oh, and I found Free Keene through the FTL chatroom.
Welcome Eric!
I look forward to meeting you two at porcfest. I'll be the one asking for cold Mountain Dews.
Lauren
You're going to have a blast and attending Porcfest is going to make you want to move sooner.
Welcome!
Roughing it? You have worse winters in Dallas than here. I saw pictures from last January. ;D

If I may ask what business are you considering in opening up, I am planning on moving to Keene in that same timeframe and will probably be looking for work.

No doubt. I'm just outside Texarkana, and the roads here completely shut down for 3-4 days at a time, at least twice this past winter. Schools shut down just because snow is predicted.
One of my co-workers is a native of Berlin NH, and he said the one time he ever had a "snow day" there, it was because the power was out.
Welcome Eric! I'll likely see you in the RLC chat room if you keep on going.
I'm from the South (TN, GA, TX) and I enjoyed working outside last winter. A friend of mine worker outside at the same place the previous winter, just weeks after he moved to NH from FL. You will do fine up here in the winter. Heck, I don't remember losing power all winter and there wasn't a time around Keene all winter when the roads were shut down.
