Hey, I'm Glen. I'm a 34 year old guy and I want to visit Keene and see what it's like. Do you think next weekend is an ok time, or maybe a lot of people are on vacation? I see there are daily rentals on craigslist, anywhere else I should look? THX!!!
Hi Glen,
There are always people here. Karaoke and Social Sundays will still be happening.
You may be able to find crash space in the housing subforum: http://housing.freekeene.com
Welcome!
Great, be there this friday-saturday. BTW: I found a decent cheap place on airbnb.com for anyone else looking. thx!
most definitely come to karaoke on Saturday!!!
coolness, I will definitely be there! Had an interesting first day… The airbnb deal that I mentioned earlier did not work out, but I spotted a $40/day furnished room on craigslist under sublets. It's an a nice huge farmhouse owned by a real good dude named Mike. If you search for 'keene estate' on nh.craigslist you will find it there.
Mike gave me a good hiking recommendation, which was the first thing I wanted to do. The nature was awesome, but was real wilderness…I almost got lost since I am used to tiny parks where all trails loop around and lead back to your starting point. Here, I took a wrong turn and went quite a ways until I started seeing the sun go down. I began to panic and had to turn back and run through the woods. Then I twisted my ankle while running, aggravating an old injury, but just bit my lip and plodded on. After I found my way out and back to my car, I drove down to Main St Keene. Wow! There's a lot of shops on that street…and it's pretty too!! I chilled out computer programming in a coffeeshop, then went for Mexican food and got drunk on Margaritas. It was still early, so I decided to see a movie at the local theatre. The movie was 'Waiting for Superman' . It was kind of painful to watch…and unfortunately the alcohol didn't help. I almost passed out twice during the movie. Anyways, got to the end and went outside…It was freezing fucking cold…Goddamnit Keene!!! And then I couldn't find my car. Shouldn't of drank so many damn margaritas!!! Oh wait, there it is, accross the street…thank you jesus! So here I am finally visiting New Hampshire, just wanted to share my initial impressions. Thanks all…see ya tomorrow!
Alright, you lived through your first day and didn't freeze to death with a broken ankle on the mountain! You'll be a Granite Stater before you know it!
Glad you made it! 8)
Pisgah state park is the best hiking in the area IMO. Excluding climbing mountians, if you're into that.
Ill gladly recommend some trail heads if you like.

Not that Pisgah is flat, of course :-) Let me know as well, as my property abuts Pisgy.
Hey!! I stopped by Karaoke, but didn't know anybody was…maybe I came too early. Did you have birthday cakes on your table?
My favorite trailhead by far is the horseshoe rd trail head in chesterfield.
Hiking up to hubbard vista is awesome, and there are other good trails too.
The entrance is marked starting near the school, right as you enter off of 9.
The other trail I go to a lot is an entrance you get to driving through chesterfield, its on your left maybe 10 to 15 mins outside the town. Technically hinsdale I think. There's nice 4 to 5 hour loop called the kilburn loop there.
Both have marked trails using colored markers on trees, but at times they are easy to lose. Be careful, bring water anda snack or two just in case, and your celli…my advice.

Yes, that's in Hinsdale, the Kilburn Loop right off of Rte 63.
My favorite trail starts in my back yard and runs into Snow Brook Trail, on the NE side of the park :-), in the area we call "Swanchester." ~ sort of the meetingplace of SWANzey, winCHESTER and CHESTERfield ;D

No. We really should encourage more communication prior to showing up at things. Sorry for failing on that point. I think I'll update our Visiting page with some new info.
