Hello,
My name is Chris, and I'm from Fairfax County, Virginia. I was born, raised, and even graduated college here in what used to be a small town on the outskirts of a little swamp we call DC. I guess you could say I've always been a Libertarian, even though I hadn't heard the term until about 11-12 years ago. I've always wanted to get active, but in my area, the only politically active people tend to rock Che t-shirts and read "Socialist Worker," and thats not really my thing. So anyway last week, my roommate told me his job is moving him so he will be moving out in a little over a month. I was stressing until yesterday when I realized this is my chance to escape VA, as I have been trying for the last 25 years (ya the time in the hospital after birth was more than enough for a few lifetimes). So with that said I'm ready to roll.
I guess that explains who I am and why I'm here, so how did I find the Shire Society? Well I've known about the Free State Project for a few years, and I found this forum through the FSP site.
Now I do have some questions though.
First of all (hopefully not a stupid question, and believe me I did try to google it), whats the difference between Keene and Manchester, you know besides and hour or so of driving?
What is the best way to come and visit? It's a 9 hour drive each way for me to get there, and I would like to visit first and check out the area as well as some places to live and work, so it would have to be a weekend thing. (I work every other Sat till noon, but I'm free this weekend)
Also, does anyone know of any rooms available for rent with other Free Staters, activists, or at least liberty minded people?
Well anyway, I've been pretty pumped for the last 24 hours knowing that this is what I want to do. Any help/advice etc. would be very much appreciated. Well Hey, with any luck I'll be seeing you guys soon.
Welcome! Rooms are available. Have you found the housing subforums here yet? There is one for Keene and one for Manch.
Differences?
Manch is bigger and has more movers. Manch has more nightlife and jobs.
Keene has a rich activist history and is home to some of the best and most radical activists around. It's 1/4th the size of Manch, but still has a decent economy, being the economic hub of SW NH. Keene has more liberty media than any other place. Here are over 150 reasons to move to Keene: http://move.freekeene.com
Let us know when you're coming to town for your visit.
