Hi everyone
I've been following the goings-on of the Free State Project and specifically the activism in the Keene area for some time now, and I signed up for the FSP back in November with the intent to move to New Hampshire eventually. I registered here a while ago but deleted the account because I was too busy with school to contribute much to discussion. I've since graduated from high school and (having chosen–at least for now–to not pursue post-secondary education) I'm planning to make the move from New Jersey in late January of 2011, or thereabouts.
That being said, I am currently unemployed and job-hunting around here has been unsuccessful so far. I just purchased a netbook which should suit my needs well enough once I move, and as of right now, I have a little under $900 saved up – not a lot, I know. If I can't find a job to add to that, I should hopefully still have several hundred more by the time January rolls around. I will most likely not be owning a car at least for some time once up here, and right now Keene is the most attractive destination to me for its walkability and relative abundance of other no-state types (though other areas are not out of the question if circumstances call for it).
Obviously, I expect to be living modestly for quite some time – I hope I can find work and housing. As long as I can get by, however barely enough, I'll be happy. I am a writer of experimental fiction to be published soon in an independent literary journal, as well as an amateur photographer (I own a Nikon D3000 dSLR camera). I'm generally easygoing, though a bit shy I admit. Anyhow, I look forward to meeting all of you and am open to any advice you may have to give.Â
Peace,
Andrew
Awesome - Keene is great! 8)
Looking forward to see you here.
Welcome welcome welcome welcome welcome and welcome!
Damn. I need to move to Keene.
Ian, am I an honorary-Keeniac presently? I've often wondered this… as this is where I hang out and write blogs and stuff. ;D
You should take that $900 and move NOW. Get a job in Keene you can walk to, before all the college students move back.
Move in the summer, not the WINTER.
Thank you guys

You really think so? I wasn't sure if $900 would be enough – I mean, by the end of July I could make another $120 or so, mowing. If this really is the best time…

It isn't a lot.
But I'm not sure the point in job-hunting where you are if you don't expect to stay. I would at least solidify housing here though before coming so you can know about how long you will have on your current money. We need some of the new movers to get together and rent a new place, like Dale suggested.
Hmmm… I'm seriously contemplating this now. ???
