Katie McCall here… currently held by force in Los Angeles county and due to (hopefully) be released from probation in January 2013 for one felony count of practicing medicine without a license (www.supportmidwifekatiemccall.wordpress.com/about). Looking to hopefully move to NH ASAP.
I am a midwife and teacher, a mother of two (11 yo daughter and 9 yo son) and a reader/writer/artist. I love being outdoors/hiking/gardening/camping/boating and also adore dancing and music. I have always been a rule follower but have also always thought outside the box. What a dichotomy. I've had a lot of trouble marrying those two sides of myself and am only now starting to come into a balance that allows me to live more sincerely.
I am here to discuss liberty and brainstorm ways to attempt to make a difference in the People's Republic of California… though I am not planning to stay here long…
I am also looking to make friends here to set down some roots for an eventual move.
Thanks for your time.
Cheers! -Katie
Oh… and I found the Shire Forum because Pete Eyre pointed me here.

That's it, yer outta here!
Welcome. I'm sorry for your legal troubles. The state doesn't allow competitors to their protected classes.
:-\
Ex-Californian here. I hope you make it to New Hampshire! It's wonderful here and we definitely need more people willing to practice medicine without permission! Good luck with your endeavors and I hope to make your acquaintance next FEBRUARY!
Welcome.
If I were you, I'd not focus any effort on making a difference in CA. I'd use my remaining time to sell my stuff and plan for the move.
In addition, I'd be hitting up all the Ron Paul and liberty-friendly events and groups with FSP info. The best thing you can do is get other people aware of the FSP while you are still there, IMO.
I absolutely agree. I don't believe there is any hope for this state. I've been trying too long to convince the "cool kids" that they want to treat me nicely here. It's time to make friends outside of school altogether.
There are folks here that would benefit from knowing about FSP and the Shire. I had no idea y'all existed until a couple weeks ago and I would have really loved to have known about it even before my arrest in 2010.
I don't think it should be too hard to make the transition… I believe my assets and income go farther in NH. I would prefer to live completely unconnected to the federal reserve… but is that even possible? I'm a midwife and I've long believed that care for other humans should never be tied in with money and government. Midwives used to work for barter as people were able to support her in colonial times. She'd deliver a baby and that family would share a portion of their crops with her for certain amount of time. Those with more would give more and those with less would give what they could.
Most midwives dealt not only with birth, but with every day conditions and a doctor would be sent for when things were outside of her knowledge. I've spent a lot of time brainstorming healthcare and it's ideal world. I've gotten involved with Fr33 Aid.

bitcoin… yes, been reading about that. But to be realistic, can you buy meat for your table with that?
I mean, who knows… here in LA you can use EBT to buy alcohol (EBT is our electronic welfare card) so, every state is different right?
I've been doing a lot of research into midwifery and NH. Looks like the state could use another but the laws do require government oversight. Fortunately, the council who does so is made up of midwives (not police officers and competing Obs like here in CA). Looks like my plan is to move to either Keene or somewhere in the Upper Valley region. I hear there is a birth center closing in the Upper Valley, which means there will be families who need care and Keene is very close to another center but is growing. So… looking like I'll make the move in the spring.
;D
If you can find somebody willing to sell you their meat for Bitcoin, then yes!
Oh my. Is THAT legal? :Z
Damn free staters.
It is legal. Not that it being illegal should stop anyone.
Kidding. It was a play on the word "meat." Sorry… my jokes get lost sometimes.
Hope they don't kick people off the forum for a bad sense of humor.

No, they don't. On a related note, I'm sure there are some people out there willing to sell (or at least rent) you that particular cut of meat for bitcoins. I'm not sure how the various smartphone apps are coming, though, so the transaction may be a little inconvenient.

Unfortunately, because the council is headed by an active midwife, she is able to (ab)use her power to harass and fine her competitors, while conveniently throwing out any complaints against herself.
Don't want to rain on your parade, but that's the way of things, right now. Plus, unless you win an acquittal on your appeal, you'd never get licensed, here, as they have broad "good moral character" discretion, and I'm certain a midwifery-related conviction would be seen as a disqualifier.

Both are nice areas. If you have any questions about the Upper Valley area, there's a subforum for that.
If you do find a way to work as a midwife, here (or maybe just run a birth center?), that would be cool. The world needs more midwives. The idea of having normal births at hospitals is silly; a baby in a normal pregnancy is more likely to get sick and suffer harm from being exposed to sick folks in a hospital, than to be harmed by some complication that didn't get prompt treatment due to not being at a hospital. I'm glad that none of my three kids were born in one of those places…

ex-Riverside and IE resident up in here. Leaving California is the answer. In all honesty New Hampshire/FSP might not be the best place for you to relocate to (just based on the fact that humans are not all the same), and it's "odd" to sell a product or brand before you buy it yourself, but "California is unlivable and anywhere will be better than here" is indisputable–particularly with your/Cali natives' position of having tried it.
