Hello from Canada

Hi everyone! I am a french-Canadian market anarchist from Quebec City (born and raised near Montreal).

I'm living in one the most taxed state in North America (about 40% of my income is stolen by federal and provincial governments). The Agency that is responsible of our national pension plan lost 40 billions between Sept. and Dec. 2008. I won't be able to send my kids for an English education because there's the stupid linguistic Bill 101 passed in 1974.  I am also a child abuse survivor which our "beautiful" health care system did nothing to help, basically because I am not a girl (special thanks to state-feminism)! You'll understand why I'm feeling kind of depressed of living here. But I still manage to smile ;D : I've been living with my girlfriend for 9 years now and she is 8 weeks pregnant. It's going to be our first child.

So, I decided to go back to school at 26 to get a Master degree in Library Science. I have 5 years of studies ahead. After that, I want to move in NH. Based on the few conversations we had, my girlfriend and me, we would like to move near the Canadian Border. I'd like Keene though! There's the whole immigration thing also (any information about that will be welcome with great interest!).

I am keeping my eyes open on this forum and I hope that my further interventions will be useful to this community!

Salut!!

(Sorry, French is a sort of hobby for me)

Hey Curt,

Of course I know Jonathan Le Goéland… it's me!! I remember you. I've been talking about you to my friends. I tell them that some American parents manage to send their kids to french school where there's no linguistic regulation!! That's all a matter of choice.

I'll go check that out right away. Thx

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

Haha, I did wonder if you and monsieur seagull were the same guy.

I didn't really go to school in French, but my parents sent me to French classes at a young age as part of an enrichment program sponsored through the school.

I know that a number of parents in QC are unhappy with the statutory requirement that kids from French-speaking households can not study English in school before Grade 3.  On the other hand, kids from English-speaking households, who have a right to go to school in English, can start French at any age.  So all it does is put French-speaking kids at a disadvantage in being bilingual, which most rational people concede is vital to the economic future of Quebec.

Welcome. What is "LIbrary Science?" The only thing I can imagine would not require 5 years of school (except, perhaps, in govt school where they water everything down and make you take courses that have nothing to do with anything).
