Hello there,
I have been lurking around for quite some time so I figured a proper introduction is in order. My Name is Rob and I am a Senior at UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City) majoring in criminal justice administration. I had heard about the FSP through several of my friends in our campus Young Libertarians group as well as my affiliations with the Missouri Libertarian party.
After giving it the due diligence of time and research I have decided that upon graduation in May I am going to be moving to Keene so I can surround myself with other like minded individuals who share my vision of less government, lower taxes, and enhanced individual freedom. Naturally, my parents think I have lost my mind (yet again).
I am uncertain how I am going to get along as far as employment and accommodations just yet, but I am a fairly resilient individual. I have had a couple of summer internships working in private security and tactics, but other than that, my resume is not very impressive. No matter though, as I look forward to the opportunity to become involved and meet as many new people as possible.
I look forward to meeting all of you on a more personal basis.
Rob
Welcome! ;D
Hi Rob! I lived in Keene for a while, but right now I'm going to JCCC, a community college mere miles from UMKC. I think you'll dig Keene!
as far as jobs go, i'm sure at some point a few of us free staters may be needing some private security from a few of the more angry/violent statists ;) hehehe.
but welcome to FK, and we will be happy to have you here as soon as possible!

Welcome! Considering your major, I hope you weren't hoping to get a job with KPD. They monitor this forum and I don't imagine they'd want to hire you if they know you're friendly with us…

I know JCCC quite well. My (now EX) GF was a student in their culinary arts program. I am also a graduate of Rockhurst HS, so a good 2/3 of my friends reside over on the Kansas side.
I personally grew up in Lee's Summit Missouri, but now reside in a fairly dilapidated excuse of a house about 5 blocks from campus that myself and 3 friends rent. I finish up with my bachelors in May, but it is great to meet another individual from my local area.
Cheers.
Rob
Thanks for the tip Ian. However, my area of expertise and specialization is in criminology, not law enforcement. A bulk of my course work deals with more sociology and psychology than it does with "walking a beat". I would really only want to enter one of the police academies as a last resort. It simply does not interest me very much as I have always been more impassioned about the social injustices that cause crime rather than enforcement and penal systems. I actually considered switching majors about a year ago, but at that point I had so many hours in CJ that I would have tacked on an additional year in order to switch.
Thanks for the heads up though. I do however find it somewhat distressing that holding libertarian ideals would make me somehow less capable as a peace officer, but I am certainly not foolish and naive enough to believe that certain societal elements would not hold that against me.
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome Jester - I just moved up here from there. We were living at 56th & Cherry just south of UMKC until quite recently.
You won't believe how beautiful NH is.
