I'm Nathaniel (friends call me Nate) from Austin Texas. Well, I wouldn't say I'm from Austin. I'm an Army brat and this socialist (please excuse my French lol) $h1t pit happens to be my current residence. I was born in Fort Campbell Kentucky, lived mostly in Texas from Bryan, Arlington and Austin. Also lived in a small town west of Phily for about 5 years. The most I missed about the north east was the snow and 4 seasons and I found the people up there friendlier. Around 98 my dad was transferred to Fort Hood and we moved back to Texas. I was unhappy ever since. After living somewhere else out of Texas for a few years I learned I don't really like the state, or the South in general. I'm sick of the heat and the people down here are ass hats. I was always planning on moving back to the North East someday but I wasn't sure on a state. After learning about the Free State Project several years ago I decided New Hampshire was the state to be. Also, my grandfather (who's lived in Utah most of his life) is originally from New Hampshire. He still has the accent. My brother will be moving with me up there. My goal is within the next 5 years. We're trying to save our money to 5K each. I'd like to move as soon as possible. But I want enough money to last me a little while until I find a job. My primary skill set is in PC Repair. Not A+ certified yet. Never had a job in it but friends and family have payed me to build or fix their computers. Right now my job is private security officer (rent-a-cop) and I'm kind of sick of the security field and the shady places I've had to work. I'm only keeping the job until I find something better. I don't want to be one of these people who always quit there jobs with out having something ready to replace it. Being jobless sucks. I'm still not sure what kind of job field I want. I like to try new things and I don't like being stuck in a single field. If that makes any sense. I think ultimately I just want to do something that gives me a since of purpose and work with other like minded liberty lovers to accomplish similar goals.
I learned about the Shire Society from watching Ridley Report on youtube.
It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to learning more about all of you. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Ridley wins again!
Welcome. Hope to see you soon.
+5 points for using the term ass hats.
Definitely an underutilized phrase.
Cheers
I kinda want an asshat. I imagine that your head would go into the actual a-hole with a buttcheek on either side. I'm trying to imagine the design. It would prolly keep your ears warm.
Welcome
Hello Nathaniel,
I just joined tonight and although I have been up here in New Hampshire (from Pennsylvania) a total of 9 weeks, I can honestly say I am glad I did it. Though I had no money, I made myself do it. 400 miles versus 1700 miles; well, it's a matter of committing and then doing it. There is only "do;" there is no "try." Places up here need dishwashers in the restaurants, they need workers in the plants, they need people to sell things in the stores; there are ways to survive. You just have to take with you what matters and will fit into one bag, like a laptop and personal papers, Bible, etc., and hop on Megabus, or put gas in the car, and come! There are needs here for people to work in the ski resorts, the offices, the Wal-Marts and other big box stores. Craigslist (web site) is how we find things like places to stay and jobs and things to buy cheap, to replace what was too heavy or too bulky or too fragile to bring with you.
Nothing sucks like staying behind doing something you hate, while your life passes you by. And you're not getting any younger. Meanwhile, you are missing out on the goings-on in the Free State. It's not heaven, but it's a far cry better than Pennsylvania was, especially economically; and I lived in eleven (11) states, including Pennsylvania.
Hello and welcome! Glad you came. Yay for Dave Ridley!
