Not much into the intro thing but here goes.
I started out as much as statist as most people did in their lives. I've always been a non-conformist which one would find strange since I spent nine years in the US Army and then attended law enforcement school shortly after leaving the service.
I guess one could say that I really started to turn against the statist machine when the Army targeted my ink. When one joins the military they voluntarily accept the fact that they become 2nd class citizens. What happened with me was the Army put out a new tattoo policy (circa 1997) in which I was in violation. At that point in time I decided it was time to leave and had a few choice words for my commander which hastened the process.
Shortly after leaving the military I took up a job with a police department in North Carolina as their animal control officer. And ya know, I was pretty damn good at it. Not many people could chase down a dog on foot. About a year after taking employment there I went through the law enforcement training graduating 3rd in my class. I was then offered a job with the county working their animal control and took that position. I soon came to realize (with the assistance of forum posters Flagg and Gloryroad elsewhere) the errors of the state and the force that is used. Up till that time I didn't have the comprehension or understanding of anarchy, liberty, voluntaryism or anything that relates to freedom except freedom by the definition of another. My eyes were opened and I saw that everything I've believed in actually did have something tangible and that there were people who had identified and coalesced around these beliefs.
Towards the end, when my eyes were opened, I saw myself as a thief with a pen, writing citations for such things as "failure to display a rabies tag" and taking money under the threat of force. It got to the point where I was disgusted with myself and with the next opportunity my wife and I left North Carolina we returned to my home state of Wisconsin where we reside in the north-central part of the state, hence the name NorthwoodsNomad.
How I discovered FreeKeene.com? Adam, Pete, Liberty On Tour, Liberty Is My Homie, CopWatch and ultimately, about three years ago I ran across the blog TheAgitator.com run by Radley Balko who at some point linked to all of the above listed sites and I've been following them ever since.
I'm still a non-comformist. I'm still an individual and I will continue to do as I damn well please without causing harm to others. There is a certain benefit to residing in the northwoods, limited amount of police and a wide range of woodland for me to run around and play. I'm always interested in promoting liberty and freedom and my main goal as of now is to educate a person on how to respond to the police when confronted with their aggression.
At some point in time we will more than likely make another move and it will be based upon my wife's career, but if we do move, I'm hoping her career lands her near Keene. Can't promise anything, but this looks like a good place to share ideas and thoughts.
Thanks for having me.
Nomad.
Welcome - looking forward to the expertise.
