Considering moving

Howdy all, I've seen some of the Free Keene videos on Youtube, and I've done some research on Keene to see if I might move there.  Thus far, I like what I see.

As for a little about me, I am a guitarist of no great talent, and an Anarchist.  Born and raised in Ohio, and sick of it.

And now for the important stuff: How's your water up there?  Not fluoridated I hope?    ;D

Actually, since you mention it, that would be a good project to work on.

Can I read that to mean that no one has performed a water test yet, or that it is known to be fluoridated, and merely hasn't been dealt with yet?  ???

Probably it is flouridated.

how do you research Keene itself?  That is interesting.

Manchester has fluoride.  In the government water, that is.  Wells aren't uncommon around here, though.

The dental hygenist says it's not, but I don't know for sure.

I have perfect water at my home (private well from 165' in an old glacial morraine) and I am hyper sensitive to perceived water quality.  The water in my hotel room in Keene tasted a bit of chlorine, but on the whole it was pretty good.  Fluoridation occurs naturally in much of NH, and I have been told that naturally occurring calcium fluoride is superior to the sodium fluoride that is added to municipal water supplies.

Keene does not appear to have artificial fluoridation.  The NH cities that do can be found on page 47 of this pdf document: http://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/bchs/rhpc/oral/documents/oralhealthdata.pdf

I suggest that you add "Good-tasting, non-fluoridated city water" as a reason to move to Keene.  ;D

Keene water used to have arsenic in it, which can be filtered out with an expensive reverse osmosis, or you can get bottled water. There is a spring down 10 that has some good tasting water you can collect though.
Last year they messed up the water supply, and sent out a letter telling everyone "it's ok as long as you're not pregnant."
Check the water quality report. This years does not have an arsenic listed. Hopefully everything present is listed in it.

From that link: "Water from the reservoir goes to the Water Treatment Facility (WTF)"

Haha, poor choice of acronyms ahoy! ;D

Anyway, it's nice to know your water isn't filled with rat poison.

The Internet is a powerful tool in re research.

Of course, the Free Keene site is a big help.  ;D

As well, I've previously discovered via other sites that New Hampshire itself has no Communist gun-carry laws, unlike Ohio.

Ok, here's one more question for ya'll.

How's the Internet up there?  I know the FK site says you have DSL, Cable and lots of WiFi, but I'm primarily concerned with bandwidth.  Is 10Mbps doable on any service?  Is there any fiber service around?  I'm a BIG bandwidth hog/whore.  ;D

I measured 25 Mbps downloads using a Comcast connection in downtown Manch once.  I just got 4 Mbps from home where I am now.  Also Comcast in Manch.

Yep.  Time Warner has a consumer-level turbo class that is pretty quick.  I use business class and get 13 down / 2 up.  You can get fiber, but you'll pay bg time.

It is.  Calcium Fluoride is naturally occuring, Sodium Fluoride is not.  Sodium Fluoride is the waste product of several different manufacturing industries, such as aluminum, non-organic fertilizer, and some others which I can't recall at the moment.

You haven't moved yet.  No reason to limit your options.

Mackler, why don't you recruit for Manchester on FreeManch.com?

Don't even get me started on that…

If he changed his name to "FreeManch.com's Mackler" and added the suffix of FreeManch to everything going on in Manchester and posted it to FreeKeene that would be awesome.
