Mostly this post will only be of interest to neighborhood folk. A company called Norwood apparently took over property management for all the purchased buildings on behalf of the school district, once they became the owners around june. It still runs at least one of the buildings.
A man claiming to be Jim Martin from an organization called America 2000, has been calling residents of “my” building to pay rent to him.
He first called me around Aug 2, 2025…requesting to enter “my” apartment with an architect . The buildlings are historic and there is some dispute about tearing them down, historical folks seem to be putting up a mild fight but i had troubld contacting them. Around Aug 4 Jim and the architect came over in my presence after setting up a time with me, and the architect ran what seemed to be an x-ray type device over the walls looking for something .
I’ve talked to Jim a few times. He has a good demeanor but strikes me as vague sometimes. I’ve called Norwood via their number on the internet and they confirm that residents of this building are supposed to pay America 2000 via Jim. As I began investigating whether I’m supposed to pay America 2000, Jim had someone claiming to be from the school district contact me via a d11.org email… to say the same thing… that I’m supposed to pay America 2000. So that is evidence he is correct. However when I call the school district directly to ask about this they never can confirm or deny, they send me to some voice mail or another which never gets back to me. An internet search of Jim Martin and America 2000 shows no obvious red flags.
Althogh the district bought this building around june, America 2000 did not contact me until approx august 2 to let me know how or who to pay. I think America 2000 was kind of thrown into this last minute. Jim was vague regarding the amount owed and said just look at the lease document. They were also vague about whether their would be late fees, as a result of them being late contacting renters. They eventually waived all the late fees when I disputed them .
The other question i have and feel i’m not getting a very clear answer on… is whether there could be any additional charges after paying all the rent that is due.
I’ve left notes for all the other renters to try and exchange contact info. Many have fled.
I’d welcome information from other renters regarding their experiences. Someone told me today that in one of the building…their owner intially refused to sell. The school district reportedly threatened to just seize the building.
So far all the renters I know of are either refusing to pay, disputing somehtiing, or delaying payment. I don’t object to paying for services received, even if I don’t like the school district and its forceably funded nature. But it’s important to have clarity and not be charged for services not recieved.
In a neighboring buildling, one renter reports a sewage type situation developed in the basement after The Man became the owner. However I did not get the sense that Norwood, The Man’s representative neglected the issue and the building remains occupied.
Abandoned furniture and overflowing trash bins have appeared in front of some buildings as renters flee the scene. A neighbor across the street is worried her home is next and started pointing at various additional buildings apparently on the chopping block…above and beyond the ones on the south side of St. Vrain st.
