This is a placeholder post where information will appear regarding a school district’s takeover and probable demolition of a neighborhood in Colorado Springs. I’m temporarily renting there while in Colorado Springs on elder care duty.
“My” apartment belonged to a great private landlord when I arrived, but the local school district bought much of the block and became the owner in June. A slew of apartment renters are being eased out of their homes by the school-expanding District 11. The district began contacting renters asking for payments, but not until August…3 months later. They’re demanding the renters pay late fees because of the District’s own lateness. The other problem is it wants us to just send it money without specifying how much it believes we owe. The neighborhood is starting to get angry, and I’m inviting them here for updates.
