Coconut FAQ

Several questions are asked to me over and over again, so here is a thread to address them. Feel free to post your own questions, and I can update the posting.

Why is your name Coconut?

Many years ago, I was in Florida visiting a family member that I don’t see often. At the time, he was married with a few step-children; making them my step-cousins I suppose. Anyway, the female step-cousin, seemingly randomly* began calling me a “coconut brain”. So that’s basically it. She called me “coconut brain” or “coconut” throughout my trip there. I’ve seen her twice in my life maximum.

*However, on further review, when I was a child learning to talk, I would call myself “coco-nas”, a takeoff of “Nicholas” I suppose. So these two stories could be related (if someone told this step-cousin of my early childhood) or not. I don’t know.

You’ve lived in NH nearly your whole life, why do you like the Dallas Cowboys?

It was late 1995 turning over to 1996. I was just barely getting old enough to comprehend, or care about, the outcome of football games (was born in 87). I do remember a few years before wanting the Dolphins to win, but they lost in the playoffs. Anyway, sometime during the 1995 NFL playoffs, I had announced to my father that I was going to root for the Steelers and the Cowboys. Why? I don’t know. A few games later when they were both still in the running, my dad asks, “What if they both make it? Who are you going to root for?” and I tell him, “The Cowboys.”

The Cowboys won Super Bowl XXX in early 1996 27-17. I remember where I was. A few months later I simply decided that they were going to be the team I support forever.

Why are you so mean?

I don’t try to be mean. I just come across as cold and blunt, as that’s how the most efficient way is to get information to you. I’m terrible at small-talk and hardly even know what to say to the cashier at Hannaford without being cold.

Are you going to run for city council again?

I’m not a politician. As you can see in my above question, I am not charismatic, friendly, and do not influence people very well. The run for City Council was to push the ideas that people on this site support further into the public, and give the citizens of Keene a choice on the ballot for such ideas. We did that, and we got a lot of brochures out, which was great.

To answer the actual question, I don’t know. It’s 2010, and there is over 18 months until the next filing period. Can I think about it a bit? Can we see what the activist atmosphere is then?

I don’t want to be best known for a last place City Council placing. Can’t you guys remember me for being found not guilty in court twice? Or for being known by my first name among KPD officers cuz I’m so darn annoying with my camera? Those are actual accomplishments.

Why are you so mean?  :duh:

How frequently asked are these questions, frequently asked?

I can't go anywhere without someone asking if I'm running for City Council again.

The screen name and football one are also pretty common if the topic comes up.

The other one is more of an issue I'm aware of (and maybe people ask themselves) rather than being asked it outright.

Sounds like the market is speaking!

people seem to like to watch others run for office and get eaten by the machine
