Civil Disobedience Thanksgiving at the Un-permitted MALIC Center in Keene, NHWill Coley, new mover to Keene and imam of the soon-to-open MALIC Center – Keene’s new mosque – recently made headlines over the city’s demand he obey them and ask permission to exercise his right to religion. Here’s the Union Leader story and the NHPR…

It was a nice day, but a bit chilly for dinner on the porch.

We had a heater

Sorry Ian, maybe I’m in “no bullshit” mode at the moment or something, but if everyone was warm and cozy, they wouldn’t be all bundled up.

Ok, believe what you want!

I’m wearing a sweater indoors right now. This is NH.

Not everyone keeps their thermostat at 58.

Lol, it’s at 70, but I’m still chilly.

Did the mosque open on the 18th?

LOL!

“We don’t have a problem with Muslims. It’s them damn Free Keeners we wants to chase outta town!”

No. Did you read the article?

(The following was in error. I responded to a post not directed at me. Please disregard.)

Sure did.

“But some locals expressed skepticism at the news — not out of opposition to a mosque, but concern about Coley’s connection to libertarian activists whom locals have collectively dubbed ‘Free Keeners.’”

“‘We have a natural concern about the actions of Free Keene, as well as their behavior over the past few years,’ David Kochman, the former president of the Congregation Ahavas Achim, a synagogue in Keene, said in August.”

Yeah. Will vowed to open on the 18th, no matter what. He made that same vow in the drunken Iman video.

The article says Will toned down his rhetoric and promised to work with the city. It didn’t say Will called off the Nov 18th grand opening.

I’m interested to know how many Muslims show up to pray on Fridays when it opens.

He said he tried to follow the process as he understood it and would have filled out the right forms if he’d known about them earlier.

But, he argued, starting that process now would set back the opening of his mosque and impose an unacceptable burden on area Muslims’ right to worship, calling it a “First Amendment violation.”

“I’m scheduled to open Nov 18,” he said. “I will open Nov. 18,” even if “they want to come and arrest me for opening a house of worship.”

Later that night, Coley toned down his rhetoric, promised to work with the city and said he will try to be less of a “gladiator.”

Yeah, I thought the article was less than accurate, and had a bit of “color” added. That applies to my earlier observation as well.

WTFK, my reply was for Blackie, sorry.

Blackie, we encountered a leak under the bathroom that needed repair, which pushed back the opening further. We’re close now.

Will has always been over-optimistic about an opening date. New date is now 12/8 and this one seems realistic. Carpet went in this week.

That was my fault. You used the right mechanism to reply to him. I’m still not used to that.
