Bosnian Croat war criminal commits suicide in court by drinking poison

"Praljak was charged with ordering the destruction of Mostar’s 16th-century bridge in November 1993, which judges in the first trial had said “caused disproportionate damage to the Muslim civilian population”.

A symbol of Bosnia’s devastation in the war, the Ottoman-era bridge was later rebuilt. The city experienced some of the worst of the Croat-Muslim clashes, with nearly 80% of its eastern area destroyed in the fighting."

This is only the second time I’ve heard of this happening in real life. The other was a bizarre case in Phoenix, where I live. A guy had a house on the Biltmore golf club and was way upside down. He torched the house and escaped the fire by bailing out of an upper level window in…scuba gear. During his sentencing for arson and fraud he slipped himself some poison and died right there in the courtroom. http://archive.independentmail.com/news/arson-in-america-the-odd-tale-of-michael-marin-ep-361941672-347823231.html/

A lot of the convicted war criminals from that time have committed suicide in one way or another. The entire Yugoslav wars can be grossly oversimplified as “talking is hard, let’s kill people instead 'cause it’s easier.”
