Public school has their own Police?

Besides universities police- has anyone seen their own public school have their own police force?

It was the first time I’ve seen it today. When i was growing up here we just had sherrifs watch over us. Now the school is equipped with its own goons?

Sigh! Sign of the times on our plantation, I guess.

We had sheriff’s deputies in Pinellas County Florida public schools when I think I was in 5th grade. So, 1993-ish. Had one in elementary, middle, and high school. Full time, on staff. And it wasn’t in a bad area, one of the most affluent sections of the county. But they started their own police force some time after I left, probably to keep costs down:

Somewhat ironically, the police may be there to protect the school from liability. My father was a shop teacher in California, and in the 80’s he forcibly removed a student from his class. His parents threatened to sue the district. Supposedly, he was expected to have the principal call the police. That was then (but it was California.)
