Kali has been my Linux distro of choice for the last few years. It comes pre-baked with a bunch of hacking tools. VM images are available.

not a big fan of kali, i use debian sid. i also do other things with it other than pentesting (which is what kali is designed for) such as video/audio encoding , streaming, and so forth.
Yeah, despite what you see on Mr. Robot, Kali is more for the network administrator than the hacker. (Of course, the tools end up being the same, but that’s true of all of them.) If it’s security and privacy you want, look at TailsOS.
Kali is definitely not a general purpose distro.
I’ve been using Mac OS for the last couple years as my primary desktop OS. I’m not trying replace that with Linux.
