HB 1494 would direct cops to "attempt to verify the ... immigration status" of people whom they arrest on grounds as feeble as "strolling about the streets at unreasonable hours," if they don't give an "account of the occasion of their being abroad," and let them turn those people over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Thus, under this bill you could be turned over to immigration officials for no better reason than that you don't have appropriate papers on you.
The committee hearing is Tuesday, February 7, LOB 204, at 1:30 PM.
