Peace Ticket
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:05:22 PM »
So, I was thinking about how I wanted to respond to the COMPLAINT they forced on me when they pulled me over for my private plate yesterday.

I came up with the "Peace Ticket".  Any suggested changes?  What do you think?

EDIT:  A Peace Ticket for outside NH, with a reference to the US Declaration of Independence instead of the NH Bill of Rights has also been attached.

Instead of just 'member', you should put 'voluntary member'.  Because the police have always told me I'm a member of society and, therefore, I should follow society's rules.  When did I become a member?  And how do I get out of it?

I like it. The only minor complaint I have is the .doc you attached wraps the ShireSociety.com address onto a second page in Open Office 3.2. It could of course be that I don't have the font you used installed and OOO is using its default, which happens to be larger.

I think since it is a society, associate might be a better term than member.

i would replace the word 'demise' with something a little less... mortal, if that makes any sense.  demise conjures up thoughts surrounding death and pain, where as something less 'human' in nature, say "peaceful end to" or "corrosion", won't sound so threatening.

other than that i think it's great!  although, i feel the officers will give it about as much respect as if you sent them a letter that said, "do you like me?  yes  no  <--circle one"

Good suggestion.  I don't think that there's anything disrespectful about it - it's far more peaceful than their tickets are.

For aesthetic reasons--not to mention that it would make the reading flow more smoothly--I'd move "It" from the third line down to the fourth.
"No revolutionary movement is complete without its poetical expression. If such a movement has caught hold of the imagination of the masses, they will seek a vent in song for the aspirations, the fears and hopes, the loves and hatreds engendered by the struggle. Until the movement is marked by the joyous, defiant, singing of revolutionary songs, it lacks one of the most distinct marks of a popular revolutionary movement; it is a dogma of a few, and not the faith of the multitude."  — James Connolly
____

...the freedom songs are the soul of the movement. They are more than just incantations of clever phrases designed to invigorate a campaign . . .  We sing the freedom songs today for the same reason the slaves sang them, because we too are in bondage and the songs add hope to our determination that 'We shall overcome...  We shall overcome someday.' — Martin Luther King

"Newer and Bluer Meanies have been sighted within the vicinity ...There's only one way to go ... Singing!"  —John Lennon

That's pretty rad, Ian.

The hypocrisy of the "consent" clause is so blatant.

It's basically a dressed-up version of "I don't consent", but I hope it is effective in preventing aggression against you.  :)

Your statement that "society requires consent" is a little vague; their presumed version of consent, that is, consent of the majority or something along those lines, could still be construed to fit. Perhaps "society requires the consent of each of its members" is what you meant, which is something statists would probably disagree with. I think it can only help to clarify what you mean in this instance, though, so your statement isn't misunderstood.

LOL Good analogy.

I like it! Perhaps in addition to listing a spot for the complaint #, you could also include a place for the person issuing the peace ticket to describe the aggressive acts that were done to him/her.  I think it helps to make the aggression explicit, since one purpose of the peace ticket is so that the public will read it and find it thought-provoking, right?

If you're sending a ticket, shouldn't there be an arbitrary demand for cash attached to it?

Not likely, but it will give them a heads up to what they are getting into.  Perhaps it will become effective if dozens, then hundreds of people start using them...   :Z

Top post updated with version two attached.  Ugly, unformatted text version here:

Quote
The Shire Society - Peace Ticket
Your agent, _________________________________, has aggressed against me, a member of the Shire Society, as evidenced by your COMPLAINT #____________________ issued on this date: ______________.  (Other agents involved will be listed on the reverse of this Peace Ticket.)

It is possible your agent incorrectly presumed that I was a part of your state society.  Your own society’s NH Bill of Rights, 1st Amendment, claims correctly that your society requires the consent of its members, as do all societies.  Consider this notice that this Shire Society member does not consent to your society and its statutes, acts, and ordinances.  Members of the Shire Society are at harmony with natural law and will not aggress against others.  As you are not alleging an act of aggression against another human or their property, we have no business.  Shire Society members are forgiving, peaceful people and we offer you these options.  Please check your choice and return to the address below within _____ days of receipt of this Peace Ticket:   Acts of aggression committed by your agent:
•   Assault
•   Coercion
•   Disorderly Conduct
•   Extortion
•   Fraud
•   Kidnapping
•   Robbery
•   Stalking / Harassment
•   Threatening
•   Trespass
•   Waylaying
•   Other:

•   Drop your original COMPLAINT and this matter will be settled.

•   Continue to aggress against me, a peaceful human being.  Choosing this option means your agency may have to expend extra funds to force me to one of your trials and prison cells, as I will not be consenting, pleading, or paying any of your fines.  Additionally, expect your aggressions will be publicized in various ways, resulting in more people joining the Shire Society.

May you find peace,
