Restaurants in Keene
« on: October 16, 2011, 04:10:36 AM »
How is the restaurant industry in Keene? Ideally I'd be looking for a management position but would be willing to work my way up. Most of my 10 years of experience is FOH but theast 2 years have been as an assistant manger; for what its worth.

I'm a little risk averse about a cross country move without employment lined up. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Restaurants open and close.  Some stay a long time.  It's like that everywhere, isn't it?

I'd guess it's high turnover like most places, so management will likely open up for you.  A number of liberty activists have been in managerial positions in local food service establishments.

However, best if they speak to their experience.

With a few exceptions for exceptionally in-demand skill sets, I'd say that's really unlikely. My best suggestion for dealing with your risk averse nature is to have some savings when you move and to hit the ground running when you arrive looking for work.

Quite a few restaurants in the area are closing or have closed down. Friendly's is closing. The 99 is closing. Fat Boys in Troy closed. The food service market is going to shit around here.

I work in a small family run diner in Troy and hear about this all the time because we worry about how it will effect us in the long run.

Good luck in the industry around here. The best bet would be a place like the Country Club.

OMG. That one's a shocker. That was a mainstay of Keene.

So did the 99, but a hibachi/sushi place is going to open up there soon!   8)  This just weeks after Tokyo Express sushi opened up downtown in the Railroad building.

One of the two Friendly's (the stand alone location) closed on West Street, also.  That makes sense, though, consider the company went under.
Excellent advice for those considering moving to the Keene area
