I wonder if the police would ever come to your house in order to push their brand of "activism"

they don't come with candles. . .they come with guns.

I hope someone snatches that up.  That place is adorable.  You'll pay more than that for an empty lot and it wouldn't even be a third of an acre.

I'd say buy the house and then join Ian in a property tax revolt.

I don't know man.  That sounds risky.  It might be a better strategy to use someone else's property for the tax revolt.

That's like saying: Agree to something, voluntarily sign a contract saying you agree to it, and then completely go back on your word.

Excepting the whole part where taxes aren't voluntary.

Oh, and also that you never sign a contract agreeing to pay them, even under duress.  As anyone who's ever bought a house in NH could tell you.

And the part where you aren't signing "I will pay $2100 in taxes each year". Property taxes go up, and they go up however much the government wants them to.

How much would one expect to pay in rent for a place like that?  Is it in a rentable neighborhood? I'd consider buying it and just renting it out to freekeeners who were respectable and would pay the mortgage/taxes in rent.

I'd also consider buying it if people would agree to build a giant deck to the far reaches of the property that was full of "code violations."

According to the map, that house is in the woods on the very outskirts of Keene - doubt there is much of a neighborhood around it.

Hmm, too bad.  That's still an insane price on a house..had no idea real estate was so cheap there.  My house is now on the market it NJ and it makes me blush to see how ridiculously inflated both home prices and property taxes are there.

James- keep me in mind if you do please.  I'm gonna take a stab at buying the place, but I'm not confident ill be able to secure much of a down payment on a loan.

There are deals like that, in a variety of places around NH.

There's a place two miles down the street from me (up here in Grafton) for less than twice that, with a dozen times the acreage.  And that's just first one I could think of, off the top of my head.
