Gays In Keene

Well, what is life like for gay people in Keene? I mean that in terms of opportunities to meet people, etc.

I'm not worried about being persecuted in Keene or anything like that.

I guess either Keith or I should chime in.  Well, Keene is one of the most liberal cities in NH but it's also one of the smallest.  That makes it seem like a comfortable place to be gay.  Keene State has what seems like a fairly active gay group that is very well received at the campus in my experience.  There seem to a surprising number of really gay-friendly str8 people there and elsewhere around Keene, and I've noticed no particular animosity at all (which you don't care much about anyway *shrug*), but I'd say the gay population isn't huge just because the general population isn't huge.  I keep meaning to go check out a club in Brattleboro some weekend.  It's only half an hour away.  It's REALLY liberal and larger than Keene.  I just haven't gotten around to it because I'm busy with things and just not much a club person anymore.  My nesting instinct has kicked in pretty strongly.  Hence, I haven't dated much lately.

I am proud to be friends with many gay/bisexual liberty activists here in New Hampshire.  I know of a few that live in the Keene area.  I was speaking to a transgendered liberty lover in the Liberty Radio Network chat room last night....  and was encouraging her to move here.  We need more diversity!

The beautiful thing you will find with the general character of people here is that no one gives two shits about skin color, religion, sexual orientation, etc etc etc...  the only thing people care about is that you treat other people with respect and that you live according to the NAP

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever met a liberty activist/lover homophobe.  Typically, it is the statist type who are full of hatred and judgment.

We're also close to MA and I'm pretty sure I found some clubs not too far doing an Internet search, but I haven't gone there yet either, for similar reasons.  I really should.  There aren't any decent gay clubs in Keene to my knowledge.  There may be a club that does a gay night or something but I don't know.  Again, not really the club type anymore so I'm not the best reference on the subject.

There aren't even any shitty gay bars, let alone decent ones.  I don't know of any bars that host a gay night in Keene.  I haven't looked too hard but I have looked.  There are 2 gay bars in Brattleboro, which I haven't ventured into yet but have been curious about.  There's also an *all male* campground over in Hinsdale (http://www.mountainsidenh.com/) whose smoking policy reads "MountainSide is a No Smoking atmosphere. Smoking is NOT permitted in any of the buildings. If you must smoke, please smoke at your campsite, and please pick up all bud's."

Well that sucks. But then again Boston (where I live now) supposedly is a good place to meet gay people, but not really because they're all statists.

I wouldn't necessarily not date someone because they're a statist, but the issue is the general mentality of the east coast elitist liberal is absolutely unbearable.

I would think that it is easier to convert someone to the ideas of liberty who is a member of a minority, ie: homosexuals.

Unless you're aiming for celibacy, I find it's pretty hard to avoid dating statists but most of the gays I've met have been more libertarian than authoritarian.

I would think that it is easier to convert someone to the ideas of liberty who is a member of a minority, ie: homosexuals.

The gay civil rights movement has switched from protesting the gun in the room to turning it on their aggressors.  They want the State to protect and provide for them just as much as anyone else.

I would think the demographic easiest to convert would be the one best represented among actual libertarians: straight, white, male.

How many more gay movers do we need before we can claim Keene is the "Destination for gay liberty lovers"?   Perhaps if we create it, they will come?
